As far as fantasizing about my future goes; it hit me that not only might I want to rewatch old favorite movies (Raiders, the original Star Wars trilogy, Jaws, The Godfather, Yojimbo, Ran, Sanjuro, Shichinin no Samurai) with people, but also to own them (I have hand me down Matrix and First Element), and to watch them, storyboarding as I go. I feel like everything I fell in love with as a kid had really solid cinematography.

I’m listening to the Raiders of the Lost Ark soundtrack again, I know most of the movie verbatim. It occurs to me;

1) the dialogue has the rapid-fire banter of movies from the 30s-40s, like Bladerunner, so it has more “period” feel than the sequels.
2) who says things like “my services are entirely inconsequential” or “the Ark eludes us still in some secluded antechamber”? Of course this grabs a kid with a higher than age group reading level, the sort of little nerd infatuated with archaeology.

Stomach upset. I should not have thrown myself on my housemate’s kale with hummus like some sort of vegetarian berserker.

I've now really screwed myself over on sleep, but hopefully being more emotionally stable is worth that physical cost. G'night Mastodon, dream of wonders.

y'know, when King Animal came out in 2012, I really wasn't interested in the album that much, but now I like a lot of it, and not one but three songs *really* grab me.

I decided to watch calming happy stuff to chill out rather than be pissed off about politics and I am now falling into a deep hole of model railroading YouTube.

Should I be getting hammered while doing this?

Oh hey it’s Black History Month and apparently significant poets count SO...

I’ve been reading Langston Hughes for the first time as an adult. He’s hit or miss for me, because I’m not as into rhyming poetry and his use of dialect can remind me of people using AAVE a lot less sympathetically. A lot of his work feels very much about being Black around 1920-50, so the context feels less current, BUT it’s a window into how that must’ve felt.

When he’s good he legit soars, so he’s worth reading.

I would go all the way to the sun if I didn’t have to come back down.
And how far is halfway there?
I didn’t see you on the trail
I’ve almost become good enough,
Should the good life be so hard won?
Is that what our dreams have become?

I probably cannot affect rain by listening to the Bladerunner soundtrack.

Okay I made it through a rough day, am waiting for the bus home, hope to grab a nap. Gonna read about Carolingian military stuff.

Today I feel fucking worthless. I’m not even a good office worker or artist, let alone anything society actually values. I’m trying to tell myself that, in any gain in self-worth, there’ll be points where I slide back, like now.

We usually don’t ship internationally (that usually goes to offices closer to the location). An exception to that rule has had me researching international addresses and that in turn has me really wanting to visit Britain before I die. It pulls me in ways most countries don’t, and I realize most of the UK is honestly kinda crappy but.

Yesterday’s #drawings; roughed the unicorn last week and I was trying for non-equine proportions, but this didn’t work. The tomb giant’s throwing skulls are filled with toxic blech, and explode. Nudity and mild violence.

woke up, and have really been feeling terrible about everything, like I missed any chance I've ever been around and now basically have decades of grindy poverty ahead before it finally thankfully ends. Everything appears bleak and futile, except the moon; the moon is pretty cool right now.
