I *want* to react to Sen. McCain's death in a way that respects his humanity, without lionizing away what I consider his contributions to the problems we currently face.

My Dad worked for NASA late in the Apollo program. What happened to NASA is only part of what turned him bitter, invested in disdain and cynicism. When the Berlin Wall fell and it looked like the Cold War was over he was... optimistic? Clearly big military industrial guys would want to make book and that’d mean... NASA? Space exploration?

I’m thinking about the whole SPACE FORCE crap, how it’s cooked up to make money for defense stuff, how sad this is as a cynical future by comparison.

Minor RPG gripe; Space 1899 is SO WHITE (specifically British). What about trying to find a way to fight “the splitting of the melon” - on Mars? Could Emperor Menelik seek Martian allies to fight the Italians (I mean, Martians are used to rocky arid hills!) or HIJM’s army seek to carve out a place on the red planet?

Berkeley is everything you hate about Santa Cruz and some of what you kinda like about Santa Cruz without any of the reasons you fall in love with Santa Cruz.

Just.. feeling like basically my chance to really have the art job, the relationships, the comfortable life, the ongoing martial arts training, etc are gone, there’s nothing left but the steady march down into the ground. But that’s too pat, that can’t be right? And anyway that can’t just be me, everyone over 25 has to feel that sometimes?

A quick glance at birdsite reveals; some ASSHOLE stuck a rider that removed wolf protections, onto a DoI appropriations act which passed; a different asshole calling people upset about a dead 9 year old snowflakes; a different asshole responding to a legit biologist *enthusiastic* about their work suggesting more nuanced interpretation, with how they are wrong b/c there are only 2 genders.

I don’t want to be from the same species as these people let alone have OUR world affected by them.

Spotted on the way here, Prundential billboard with “They say Millenials are lazy. Prove them wrong by retiring early.” This is the most tone deaf thing I’ve seen in weeks, equivalent to telling people to not be asthmatic in the middle of an attack, it makes me want to throw Molotov cocktails.

Slept 3 1/4 hours, up again. Took melatonin, hopefully that'll kick in soon.

Trying to figure out what to do tomorrow;

a) explore my new location with a long walk to and from a game store.
