My stints at Amazon were pretty benign and years ago (when scrabbling for money in Seattle still meant you could rent a tiny efficiency), and still featured being disposable temp labor, surviving a purge of temps who weren’t inputting data fast enough then a move to a job site halfway across Seattle, working mandatory 50 hour weeks management was “hoping wouldn’t become mandatory 60 hour weeks.” That’s my tiny part in building this asshat’s “Amazon winnings.”

At some weird level I keep expecting 1-2 films yearly I’m really stoked about and the same franchises to do movies once every 2-5 years, where I’d have no problems about multiple similar comics coming out monthly. Like there just hasn’t been enough anticipation or something? (Although again... earth and a ton of characters, some of whom don’t grab me.)

I’m not that stoked about Infinity War. Part of it is characters and setting (I’m not interested in Iron Man, an unfamiliar with canon surrounding Thanos, and it’s all on modern day earth); but oddly some *timing* feels weird. Like it’s been under a year since GotG II, 6 months since Thor Ragnarok, Black Panther is still in theaters, I just saw Pacific Rim Uprising and missed Shape of Water, SW films come out yearly, Jurassic World II is next month etc.

I still think capitalism can offer things like consumer choice, employee choice, wealth distribution and a prosperous society. What always gets touted is feudalism draped in free market rhetoric and I feel like I’m basically believing in the equivalent of the USA as a land of opportunity and equality (yes I try to hold onto that myth!) or Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.

The regular reminder of how pissed I am that “entrepreneur” isn’t someone who decides they’re gonna run a shop, restaurant or their own truck, but always some 20-50-something white dude with more personal income than all of rural Oregon combined at the very least, who’s had This Brilliant Idea someone else has coded and someone else ships out, and therefore whole municipalities lube up and bend over for him.

A thing which still gets me about the Bay Area;

As soon as you get west of 280, from Pacifica to Santa Cruz is rural nowhere. Being only 60-120 minutes from this is definitely part of why I don't completely despise the Bay Area, but it surprises me that the whole thing hasn't been built up into generic poor or upper middle class nowhere.

Anyway I was thinking about this because as is my pattern insomnia has turned into wanting to stay up/skip work/drive out through open country to the coast.

I don’t give a clusterfuck about teaching boys to grow up to be men and girls to grow up to be women. I care about teaching *children* to grow up to be *decent human beings*. I think it’s specious and vile to care about a gender who learns to interact with strangers, tie knots, skin animals or ride horses and HOPEFULLY becomes the sort of adult who will help an injured friend. Child is a much more important identity than anyone’s gender bullshit, including mine.
