re: baffling comic strip, cryptic covid-19 allusion
@Austin_Dern @001zlnv I 'get' it. It's a sentient application which informs the user if it is 'safe' or not - if they have 'consent' - to hug someone. Because Corvid-19 has put the onus on the huggER for determining consent to be touched in advanced of just grabbing someone, which is so hard to do that you need an AI to do it for you. Or a global pandemic to modify your behaviour on threat of death, but even that may not be enough.
It is not, imo, a very *funny* joke. But it's internally self-consistent for certain worldviews.
Although it could be metacommentary on the technical field's efforts to solve interpersonal boundary issues with ML systems, which would be hilarious. But Poes Law applies.
Humour is a funny business...
@spottyfox
Depends. Down by the marine quarter, the ottrs and orcas call it "Pressure", on account of how they have "The Benes" from coming up too fast. In the hyperfur district, those who have the wrong tickle in their throat seek out "Purple Mounting's Majesty" to quiet their coughs. And in Weirdvorp? Well, if someone's searching for a drop of Captain Jack, they - wait - no, that's a poodle with a truncation. Ah, in Weirdvorp ask your bartender for a shot of "Boopplûnnger".
Tip well.
@spottyfox It's a lovely morning on the island, and you are a horrible nook. #acnh
@Alistor Many happy returns, and a metric gigafoottonne of luck. n.n
re: COVID question, groceries
@frameacloud Regarding suggestions we should leave food outside for three days or wash fruit with soap... please do not. Instead, a thread. From a food microbiologist. They have helpful advice and good news.

@spottyfox Look, "3-2-1 COVID" was the bomb.
re: us pol
@catgoat People need to hear that.
People really need to hear that the few people proposing slaughtering their parents and grandparents for another brief blip in an index, are not representative of millions of Americans who feel the same.
They aren't even representative of their own *employees*.
People need to hear that even in their own industries, the rich evil fuckers promoting eugenics ARE HORRIFYING.
We have to denormalize this right now.

@porsupah "Nobody seems to be able to tell me what happens if the Prime Minister is incapacitated."
*gestures helplessly at Boris Johnson's entire effing life* Look, if you don't know what he's like by now, I don't know how to tell you.

re: (-, cw:death, I'm fine, I'm always fine)
@JulieSqveakaroo Coworker went out for a smoke break. Boss found him on the pavement, smoke still smoldering. Boss yelled for help, bunch of us ran out. Coworker was still breathing then. Ambulance called.
Put him into recovery position, loosened tight clothing, cleared airway, monitored breathing and pulse. Breathing slowed, pulse slowed. Pulse stopped. Put him into CPR position. Son started full beathing and compressions. Son began to collapse, I took over compressions. Maintained compressions until ambulance arrived. Handed over on request to paramedics once they'd hooked up the defib around me.
He had a chance. Defib went off twice, there has to be some heart activity to...
...
I may not be fine.
"A friend here at work had a heart attack, Julie. I'm sad."
re: (-, cw:death, I'm fine, I'm always fine)
@porsupah ... and just heard back from the hospital. They've pronounced.
I want to go home now, please. *sigh*
@Austin_Dern Well, that's silly.
I mean, you just use a standard Category 5 10-base-Tea adapter. Why wouldn't you? They're everywhere.

re: Covid 19, medical equipment shortage
@hafnia @SouthernGothHick It's a valid question. Did some digging: negative-pressure ventilation - like iron lungs, or homebuilt 'wood lungs', wouldn't likely be of any use in this scenario. They depend on a patient having fairly healthy lungs. You're right. It seems a positive pressure system - a 'modern' ventilator - would be the minimum requirement.
Well, at least I found where *not* to start looking. n.n
