@cozykaffe@snouts.online Arsenic, on the other hand, just wants you dead. Arsenic metal is just as toxic as its compounds, and it doesn't resist oxidation anywhere near as well as lead and mercury.

@cozykaffe@snouts.online Lead is, if we remember right, much less toxic than mercury. We don't get squeamish working with lead, anyway, while we absolutely do if we ever have to work with mercury. Or cadmium, for that matter. Cadmium is also very toxic and for whatever reason people seem to not know of it in the same way they know of mercury and lead.

@cozykaffe@snouts.online It's also an environmental toxin; as a toxic element it can't be broken down, and there is no known mechanism for it to be naturally removed from a site where some was spilled. It accumulates in the environment just like it accumulates in animals that consume it, and it just stays there, never going down.

@cozykaffe@snouts.online Hmm, it's much like lead really, in that the metal itself is not that bad for you, but the salts it forms are very toxic. I'm not sure if it would react with stomach acid, but if it would it would produce the extremely toxic mercury(II) chloride.

It would be fascinating to see how some of the stranger laboratory glassware is made. Beakers and flasks are simple, but how are soxhlet extractors or vigreaux columns made? Or the weirder condensing columns, too.

@fribbledom What are those connectors, on the left side of the board and between the HDMI and TRS jacks?

@fribbledom None personally, but the research grant we're on has spent several thousand on licenses for expensive engineering tools.

@fribbledom SMART statistics are odd. I think there's a threshold at which it's considered an unhealthy drive, and below that it's healthy, even if it seems very high. Even if it's high enough to be cause for concern.

@cozykaffe@snouts.online Felthry beeped back, and insists that I relay that message to you.

@Caudle It never seems like recipes make the number of things they claim to make, does it?

every so often i remember that the swedish vallhund breed exists, and i am DELIGHTED because it's basically like they smacked a wolf with the corgi ray

@cozykaffe@snouts.online I think it's meant to be more for hydration than just tasting good. That's how it's marketed anyway.

@monorail I think it's always good to specify if something is a photo, particularly for people using the alt text because they can't see the image at all, rather than just to understand the image better.

@cozykaffe@snouts.online Surely there's at least an animal shelter somewhere where you could work with cats and dogs? In our experience, even if you can't get a job at one, they _always_ want volunteers.

@cozykaffe@snouts.online Apply to a zoo! Or possibly an animal rescue organization?

@cozykaffe@snouts.online Working an interesting job, perhaps? You do have to get lucky for that, though.

@chr Riven has some pretty interesting wildlife, at least.

re: mh -?

@monorail @Felthry Sometimes it's hard to reach each other directly, and even when it isn't, posting it online also leaves a record of it. But you're right, most of the time we communicate internally.
