Apparently, it's called Bowden cable. It wasn't as hard to find as I'd expected.

@pearshapes@snouts.online I just think it's an interesting method of mechanical signal transmission, and I'm curious what else they're used for. We've seen them on bicycles and lawnmowers.

What is that type of cord used for brakes on bicycles called, anyway?

@cozykaffe@snouts.online That restaurant is practically a cryptid. No one knows where they came from, they've just always been there serving above average quality, semi-authentic Mexican food, with their very distinct atmosphere. No matter where you go, the restaurant is there. You can't escape.

@cozykaffe@snouts.online If you ever find it again, do show us. I'd like to know that story!

@cozykaffe@snouts.online I swear, there is an identical Mexican restaurant in every city we've lived, with identical decor and menu between all of them. They're not a chain, either.

@cozykaffe@snouts.online Taco Bell is fast food, Moe's is fast-casual, and that Mexican restaurant that exists under different names in every town simultaneously is a sit-down restaurant.

@cozykaffe@snouts.online There are, as we understand it, three 'grades' of restaurant. Fast food, which you know; "fast-casual", which is nicer than fast food but still has the pay-before-you-eat, order-at-the-counter format, and "sit-down restaurants", which is the sort where you get a menu, sit down with it, give a waiter your order, and pay after you finish.

@maidofclay@snouts.online It's not something we can really put into words, I think. Some days it's more of a "now the other one is controlling the body", and some days it's more "now I'm the other one", if that makes sense. It varies. We're generally not both conscious at once, but since we share memories there's no real disconnect when we switch. We're not quite as distinct as some of the other systems we know.

@maidofclay@snouts.online I don't think any two systems experience it in the same way. You're completely valid, however many of you there are. If you need someone to talk about it with or ask questions, Fel and I should be available and more than willing to help!

@maidofclay@snouts.online I notice the we; are you plural? We hadn't known, if you are!

@monorail @cozykaffe@snouts.online Oh, it was down? That would probably be it, then.

@monorail @cozykaffe@snouts.online That's odd. It works now, but it didn't earlier.

@monorail @cozykaffe@snouts.online Did you delete this after posting it?

hypothetical fictional violence

In that story of Solomon and the two people who both claimed to be mother to a baby, it's rather disturbing how quickly the false mother was willing to cut the baby in half.

please cw your pokémon sword/shield stuff, at least for a couple hours or so

@fribbledom This looks like a simulation of a bunch of identically-charged objects repelling each other.

re: Round table shitposting, blood

@daylight Do you mean the spear of longinus?

What does OG as used to mean "original" actually stand for, anyway?

re: longpost // griping about sci-fi rocket engines

@pearshapes@snouts.online I know that real-world vacuum engines do tend to use bell-shaped nozzles, just like atmospheric engines. I'd imagine the engineers designing them know something about what they're doing, though I certainly don't.
