The fact that music tends to be written around eight note scales with uneven spacing between them seems very arbitrary. I suppose there's a mathematical origin to it, but it seems strange.

I just saw a youtube video from an amateur chemist using vodka for a stock solution of ethyl alcohol and I find that amusing. Though effective, as I imagine anything food-grade is going to be pretty close to lab-grade!

Goodnight, all. May you rest well and awake refreshed!

Hey @monorail, how were you making custom Baba Is You levels yesterday? I'd like to play around with that but I don't seem to have access to any sort of level editor. Is it hidden somewhere?

I wonder if it's physically possible to have a material that is simultaneously a superconductor and a semiconductor; i.e., something that has a bandgap on the order of 1~3 eV, but which also permits the formation of a Bose-Einstein condensate of Cooper pairs.

I've been a lot more close to front lately. I wonder if there's some particular reason for that, or if it's just down to chance.

@starkatt You were talking about the word "hundo" earlier, I believe. I wanted to tell you that we actually encountered someone using it for something completely different today--we were testing the current-carrying capacity of a wire by passing 100 amperes through it and measuring the power loss and temperature rise, and the person we were borrowing the 250A power supply from referred to it being set at 100A with "hundo".

Has anyone ever made the "my god, it's full of taurs!" joke?

re: baba is you, question

I can only assume the solution I found was unintended for at least one of the two. What's the intended solution?

baba is you, question

Wait, are the levels space-8 and space-extra1 identical? I solved both of them with exactly the same method. They can't both be intended to be completed in exactly the same way, right?

I feel like I haven't been around much lately. I'm not really sure how to fix that. I'd like to be around more; you're all good people here.

Baba is you is a good game, but some of the levels just have me really stumped.

I managed to complete the temple ruins though!

i haven't done any pixel art in a million years so heres some.

Here, I'm using /g/ to represent any of [g], [γ], [gγ], or similar sounds, as I certainly couldn't claim to know what specific voiced back-of-the-throat consonant it represented. Likewise, /k/ represents an unvoiced consonant at the same place of articulation--or possibly different but similar place.

Where did the letter G come from, anyway? I know it originated as a variant of C, but I don't know what sound changes in Latin made it necessary. It would make most sense for it to have originally been /g/ and something shifted it to be /k/ in some contexts, and then later /k/ was seen as the default and /g/ a variant, which would logically lead to /g/ getting its own glyph assuming the people speaking the language could tell the difference between /k/ and /g/.

They say to have soup when you're feeling ill... Perhaps we'll go get some nice udon soup.

Seeing them called Intel FPGAs still looks weird to us.
