incredible asset quality from the $60 stuttery-framerate port of monster hunter

I love my Switch but goddamn if the Switch Tax isn't very real and incredibly shitty

@Galuade I mean. This was fine on a 2.5 inch 320x240 screen, haha. but you actually have to like.... put in effort on it on Switch??? wow

@Felthry A lot of Switch games are just more expensive than other ports, just because the Switch is popular and they know they can get away with it

@ShugoWah Hmm. We've mostly seen $60 which seems to be the usual price for new releases.

@Felthry It's mostly indie games and small release, that've often ended up $10 more or so on Switch

@Felthry Like Monster Hunter was a $40 3DS game, just like every other 3DS game, and now this shitty remaster on Switch is $60 because who cares they'll buy it

@ShugoWah @Felthry being as fair as i can be, my understanding is that nintendo is overcharging devs for switch carts compared to blu ray costs for other consoles and forcing a high level of minimum orders

also being fair, this doesn't explain why it affects cheap ports/nintendo's own games/digital only games that are more expensive on switch

@ShugoWah @Felthry (i think i remember one dev saying they'd put the price of their game up because it was like you were getting the console and handheld versions, so it was to compensate for the loss of double dipping... but it's one development process with some performance tweaking for both at the end - the same as ps4 and pro or xbone and xbonex)

(i spent hundreds of hours in 3u but like, christ, how did they manage to take a wii game, crunch it down into a 3ds game, then stretch it back out to a console game with no asset improvements whatsoever yet somehow manage to reduce it to anywhere from 20-40 fps)

@mira It is maddening that MH is this massive juggernaut of a cultural phenomenon that's been running for 14 years and not a single goddamn one of them has been like, technically sound since PS2, haha

I mean god bless it for being so good in spite of that, but c'mon can just -one- port of -one- game have a solid framerate
