re: deltarune
I'm specifically noting hearts here, because Ralsei claims to be a prince, and wears heart iconography. His whole story of "I've lived here my entire life waiting for you" is shaky at best, and actually contradicts his own legend that "Three heroes appear at the world's end"
Also, I don't even think he's a Darkner:
deltarune, undertale
Sorry if I'm being insufferable about this. But one more deltarune thread for the night: "Do not" and the removal of choice.
In UNDERTALE, the stabby ending ends with the choice to destroy all of existence ("ERASE") or not do that ("DO NOT").
But at this point, it doesn't actually matter what you choose - the First Human has already taken over. If you try to choose not to end the world, you get dialogue like "DO YOU THINK YOU'RE THE ONE IN CONTROL HERE" and it ends anyway
re: deltarune, undertale
Two threads recur here - often in DELTARUNE, options are presented to you in the form of "Something" and "Do not" - I think in all of these cases, and I need to confirm this, it doesn't matter which one you pick, the thing happens anyway.
"Do not" to not to playing JEVIL's game? "You're already playing"
"Do not" to opening the locked cell? The key reacts automatically.
So we see repetition of the "do not" and "removal of choice" themes from one of UNDERTALE's endings
re: deltarune, undertale
Just wanted to tack one more thing on this. We know your (the player's) SOUL is in Kris. We strongly suspect Kris is soulless because of certain mannerisms, and the ending mirroring the soulless endings of Undertale. Also this, which states that their body "contains a human SOUL (yours)"
Again parallels here to UNDERTALE's end, where the only way to recover the world from the ERASE/DO NOT ending is to sell your soul to the First Human.
re: deltarune, undertale
@SomeEgrets i think you can fight however you like too, and the end result is the same--very much unlike undertale where the game literally judges you at the end
re: deltarune, undertale
@thingywott yeah, I've done it both ways. There are some minor differences in how the endgame in the dark world plays out, but the end result is the same, and I don't think the light world changes at all.
Also, no matter which way you go, I don't think there's any way to gain EXP
re: deltarune, undertale
@SomeEgrets wait, really?
i went full pacifist, so i just expected actually fighting to eventually up your LV like in undertale
i mean, i imagined it wasn't as soul-crushing as the no mercy route in undertale, but hearing that the ending was the same did make me a little curious
(i'm guessing the differences are mostly defeated NPC reactions?)
re: deltarune, undertale
@thingywott so yeah, when you fight an enemy in the dark world, they just get scared off and flee from battle.
And yeah, small differences leading up to the end are that some of the NPCs hanging around the castle don't think very much of you, and don't come to your aid during the fight with King Dad.
re: deltarune, undertale
@SomeEgrets huh! i kinda wonder how that would play out if nobody came to help
re: deltarune, undertale
@SomeEgrets hee, you don't need to worry about being insufferable
that's what's cool about cws--anyone can just glance and say "ahh, nah, not right now"
heck, you're not even posting to the local timeline
besides, it's fun to read. i played through both games, but never really got deep into speculation (minus some reading) which is why i've been blindsided when some of it turned out to be true
re: deltarune, undertale
@thingywott yeah, my default privacy is set to "unlisted" because just, in general, I'm mostly here to interact with people I know. I'm not to keen on posting to a shared timeline by default.
Also helps because:
a) I'm not great at knowing what to CW, and when
b) worried about the twitter xposter posting a tweet that should have a CW, but twitter doesn't support those, so...
re: deltarune, undertale
@thingywott I do kind of wish there was a better place for this stuff, where it would maybe have a wider audience and contribute more to ongoing speculation/threads.
But like, without dealing with large internet rando communities, especially in games.
re: deltarune, undertale
@SomeEgrets maybe hashtags? because AFAIK, they aren't the spammy-looking things they are on twitter
i actually use one for dream journals!
alternatively, this stuff is probably fine on the local timelines too (actually, pretty much anything is, as long as it's tagged with a cw)
re: deltarune, undertale
@SomeEgrets that's fair!
i try to CW anything that's could negatively affect someone's mental state, spoilers, and things linking to twitter
i kinda just got a sense for it because i watch the local timeline too
re: deltarune
At the very least, I'd have expected the three kings to at least *recognise* him if he was a dark world prince, even if he's not actually a card suit.
