deltarune

So, I think Ralsei's persona is probably fake? In every other card suit, the creatures look the same. Lancer looks a lot like his dad, the King. The low and high tier diamond/heart enemies look alike, as do their respective kings (see image).

Ralsei does not - you can specifically see the King of Hearts here, who looks totally in line with the hearts archetype. Which is not Ralsei.

re: deltarune

I'm specifically noting hearts here, because Ralsei claims to be a prince, and wears heart iconography. His whole story of "I've lived here my entire life waiting for you" is shaky at best, and actually contradicts his own legend that "Three heroes appear at the world's end"

Also, I don't even think he's a Darkner:

re: deltarune

At the very least, I'd have expected the three kings to at least *recognise* him if he was a dark world prince, even if he's not actually a card suit.

deltarune, undertale

Sorry if I'm being insufferable about this. But one more deltarune thread for the night: "Do not" and the removal of choice.

In UNDERTALE, the stabby ending ends with the choice to destroy all of existence ("ERASE") or not do that ("DO NOT").

But at this point, it doesn't actually matter what you choose - the First Human has already taken over. If you try to choose not to end the world, you get dialogue like "DO YOU THINK YOU'RE THE ONE IN CONTROL HERE" and it ends anyway

re: deltarune, undertale

Two threads recur here - often in DELTARUNE, options are presented to you in the form of "Something" and "Do not" - I think in all of these cases, and I need to confirm this, it doesn't matter which one you pick, the thing happens anyway.

"Do not" to not to playing JEVIL's game? "You're already playing"

"Do not" to opening the locked cell? The key reacts automatically.

So we see repetition of the "do not" and "removal of choice" themes from one of UNDERTALE's endings

re: deltarune, undertale

@SomeEgrets i think you can fight however you like too, and the end result is the same--very much unlike undertale where the game literally judges you at the end

re: deltarune, undertale

@thingywott yeah, I've done it both ways. There are some minor differences in how the endgame in the dark world plays out, but the end result is the same, and I don't think the light world changes at all.

Also, no matter which way you go, I don't think there's any way to gain EXP

re: deltarune, undertale

@SomeEgrets wait, really?

i went full pacifist, so i just expected actually fighting to eventually up your LV like in undertale

i mean, i imagined it wasn't as soul-crushing as the no mercy route in undertale, but hearing that the ending was the same did make me a little curious

(i'm guessing the differences are mostly defeated NPC reactions?)

re: deltarune, undertale

@thingywott so yeah, when you fight an enemy in the dark world, they just get scared off and flee from battle.

And yeah, small differences leading up to the end are that some of the NPCs hanging around the castle don't think very much of you, and don't come to your aid during the fight with King Dad.

re: deltarune, undertale

@SomeEgrets huh! i kinda wonder how that would play out if nobody came to help
