So our school does "hot lunches" which are essentially the prepared kinda meals you could get at your local grocery store.
The kids don't always eat them. One boy left his today entirely unopened.
Is it ethical for me to steal it for my own lunch? It's just going to be thrown away.
CW food, ethical Q
That's what I figured, too.
There's the slight possibility that the kid might have come back for it to eat at home or something, but as I see kids throw away unopened or barely touched food every day, I doubt it.

Omg seriously? I knew corrupt corps like Starbucks had rules like that, but I would have assumed the government would have donation guidelines for unused food.
Tbh I don't know how government-funded our school lunches are. We are a public school, but things like our art programs are almost entirely parent funded.

@Sparrow If it's abandoned at the end of lunch and it's still sealed, I would say it's fair game. If the owner's still hovering around it, I wouldn't take it, but if there's clearly nobody around who's going to eat it and it's obviously trash otherwise, there's no point in it going to waste.
CW food, ethical Q
@Sparrow Ethical, probably, but unless you're 100% sure that's totally okay with everyone involved, I wouldn't. It's a really really nonsensical thing to lose a job over, but I've lost a job over a nonsensical thing.
I'm so paranoid that when I'm in offices after hours and see a coin on the floor, I don't pocket it, I put it on the nearest person's desk.
CW food, ethical Q
@Sparrow I say yes, it would be a waste to throw it away
