TERF rehtoric
@catoutofbed@octodon.social
Yeah, for real. And like half of the awesome Pagan ppl I used to work with have some TERFy beliefs, even the ones that are ostensibly progressive. They come up in conversations at unexpected times and it's really disconcerting. A lot of "sure trans people should have rights, but don't call me cis, I'm just a woman" kind of nonsense.
But... Yes. Absolutely. :D
@catoutofbed@octodon.social
YUP. Yup, yes, totally.
Yeah, I had a ton of internalized homophobia in middle/hs before I came out as queer. (The progression was bi->lesbian->queer).
I have an imposter syndrome-kinda feeling about transitioning, myself. Like a big part of me is worried "well is it just gender roles that make me uncomf? Just being a target of misogyny?" And like yeah, that's a part of it, but also I'm just an enboi and that's okay. *shrug*
Sadness
& co-workers being like "oh sometimes she just doesn't listen to women" me: "ok that's weird, also I'm not a wo-" *sigh*
But also I can't exactly be like "what's up with that internalized sexism, 9 yo girl with down syndrome?" lol
@thefishcrow mmm thank you~!
@Noelle808@witches.town
That makes sense to me.
I think in general male characters, in any fiction, tend to be better written than female characters, which is why so many women (even straight, cis women) tend to identify more with the male characters. That, and I've heard the original Kirk/Spock shippers liked that romance because it was between equals, when many canon m/f relationships at the time we're definitely not balanced.
Hm, I guess that's true. Idk.
For me yaoi and slash fiction was how I figured out I wasn't a girl. But you're right, they're appropriative and not like male queer culture at all. Hence wondering if yaoi is just... Something else altogether?
But my thought process was, the "gay" identity consumers of yaoi experience are mainly women and trans masc folks, so maybe it's its own thing now?
@Efi ?
Just considering that girls are typically the consumers of yaoi growing up.
Maybe transmasc culture would be more accurate, but not all of the "girls" who identify with yaoi growing up end up being guys.
