Platformer movement code is shockingly complex, @typhlosion is teaching me about obscure things like "coyote time" and "jump buffering" that make everything feel smoother, helpful typh
@VoxSomniator @typhlosion Coyote time?
@Felthry @typhlosion So apparently this is a common thing in platformers- If you run off the edge, there's a few frames where you can still jump mid-air, making it much easier to jump right off the edge of a platform as is often desired. Sort of like, player forgiveness, a lot of the other platformer mechanics have the same idea and it makes it feel better to play.
The name is a reference to how wile e. coyote always runs in mid-air off cliffs and such :B
@VoxSomniator @typhlosion oh! I hadn't known there was actually a name for that.
@Felthry @VoxSomniator it also goes by ledge forgiveness and a couple other names, but coyote time is the most memorable imo
@VoxSomniator @typhlosion real coyote times
