TIL that vines grown along the exterior walls of a house can insulate the house against cold winter winds. Useful for keeping the house warmer during winter.
Also they can help shade a house to keep it cool in summer (which I already knew)

If you haven't been keeping an eye on the weather, the heat wave rolling in today is different from the last! Last time was "easy" mode, with exceptional heat but low humidity. From noon today (8/11) through Saturday evening (8/14) we're forecast for extreme heat AND humidity.
This is weather that kills people! Even young, healthy, fit people. The Pacific NW hasn't yet internalized cultural adaptations for weather like this, which means individuals need to intentionally keep ourselves safe while 'common sense' lags reality.
