re: transition -

@porsupah I'm going out there to register as a new patient, and then will do telemedicine appointments. This clinic allows you to register online, but I am told that their waiting list is very big, and that you get set up quicker if you register in person.

re: transition -

@SkunkyLass Ah, I got some alternate transportation arranged with a friend of mine, who has always been very supportive of me being transgender

re: transition +

Well, some good news. I contacted one of my offline friends and he has agreed to drive me out to the clinic friday next week!

Dispelling PETA misinformation, mention of a highly distressing ad, NPR link

PETA recently released a shocking video ad that plays audio of typical barn owl vocalizations and presents them as "screams of pain" paired with graphic descriptions of torture.

These descriptions are false and meant to emotionally manipulate people into giving money to their group. Not only that, but this ad is severely triggering people with sensory issues, autism and PTSD among others. It starts playing instantly and loudly and gives no opportunity to avoid hearing the sound.

Barn owls are well-known for their harsh, loud, screeching calls. They in no way indicate pain or distress. The specific audio was taken without credit from an NPR story about barn owls being studied to help us understand ADHD. The owls were not harmed in this study in any way.

If you come across this ad, keep in mind that PETA lies and manipulates and is not deserving of your sympathy or money. They do nothing good with it. And if it causes you distress, I understand. It upset me too initially, and I understand barn owls well. It's instant, it's loud, it sucks, it's manipulative, and PETA should be ashamed of themselves.

Here is the link to the NPR article the audio was pulled from.

transition -

Tomorrow my brother was going to drive me over to a transgender health clinic to register as a patient, which is the next county over.

However, because we got a huge $400 electric bill yesterday, money is going to be tight and we can't afford the gas for the trip until next week at the earliest ._.

So I'm seeing a lot of stuff about how in light of the pending Roe v. Wade reversal it would be a good idea for anyone using a period tracker app to delete it. Most of these apps share creepy data as it is & now who knows how that data could be exploited further. However, for a few reasons I'm divided about going totally app-less for my own period tracking. Unfortunately I can't seem to find info about an actually secure tracker app. Any recs?

food

Quarter past noon and I am having my breakfast. Porridge made from textured vegetable protein and egg, and spiced up with cayenne, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, allspice, and nutmeg :3

@Dax@masto.werefox.dev Arg, that sucks >,<

sends you soft face-hugs

re: capitalism

@Aetous @RussellTheFox Same. Also, way back there actually was such a thing as free lunch, sorta. Bars would give you a free lunch if you ordered a drink, or something along those lines.

PSA: please do not use "religion" when you mean Christianity, abortion

Attempting to get ahead of the inevitable backlash: US abortion bans are not an expression of *religious* freedom. They are an expression of certain *Christian* views.

In Judaism, there are many cases where abortion is halachically mandated: jta.org/2019/05/22/opinion/wha (a good overview from an Orthodox perspective) Banning abortion infringes upon Jewish religious freedom, so please don't say "religion" when you mean Christian.

news, USpol, Roe v. Wade (-----)

"The [U.S.] Supreme Court [will vote] to strike down the landmark _Roe v. Wade_ decision, according to an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito circulated inside the court and obtained by POLITICO."

The *official* decision is not expected for another few months. Politico's source says 4 Republican-appointed judges are on board, the 3 Democratic-appointed ones opposed, and Roberts undecided.

While the outcome isn't surprising (the question was whether _Roe_ would be overturned outright, or chipped away like the Voting Rights Act), someone leaking the opinion to the press *is*; it indicates conflict behind the scenes.

Note to uterine-Americans: as anyone familiar with U.S. repro rights will tell you, the anti-choice movement's ultimate goal is banning birth control. Plan accordingly.
