@synthgal @PsyChuan Mentioned this to my mother, and she says that in a lot of countries with older houses and older wiring, they typically lack circuit breakers. American households tend to have them, so individual outlets usually don't have switches as a result.

@PsyChuan Unless the outlet is controlled by a wall switch, correct. The closest thing we have to an on/off switch on (modern) outlets is the test & reset buttons.

@Ylfingr From what I gather, the issue is with the subwoofer, as the speakers take their input from it. The speakers+subwoofer are also 12-13 years old, so I guess they're starting to show their age

Well, I think I figured out why I suddenly started getting tons of spam. Several of the phone/text spams that I have gotten have been for someone named Adrian.

I think what happened is that this Adrian signed up for something and accidentally entered my number when he was entering his own, and whoever he gave the number too either got hacked or was some dubious company that sold off his personal info to spammers.
