@fineursine oh my god, this, but with my passport every time I travel.

Welcome peeps - whether you're looking to avoid using a lame site that loves shitty people or just want somewhere where you can talk to your animal friends in peace, I hope you enjoy this place.

@kotep the story beats where she talks to someone from her childhood and they are totally oblivious to her slave leia outfit are really batshit

@fineursine sorry for being salty, I've just seen this devaluation of creative output spread outside video games to art - I've literally seen people argue that if they can get a whole game for 3 dollars and games have a lot of art, why pay more than that for anything? I get that these people are bad faith idiots but it's frustrating.

@fineursine imo 8-10 bucks is relatively fair for a SNES game; steam + humble have just devalued games to the point where anything above 5 dollars seems high. Eventually Nintendo will do their subscription service and games will have the Spotify problem, which imo is worse.

@Fringecrow I only played 3 runs since I just got it last night. I think it's really hard but if side view platform games are your jam, it seems really fun. Pretty much every video game podcast I listen to is enamored with it, so I figured it was worth checking out.

@smallesttiger something I used that I should have done sooner was calling a self harm hotline - you're allowed to call on behalf of someone else and they can give you info on what hospital to go to and walk you through whatever you have questions on.

MH

@smallesttiger if it's a case where she's intent on hurting herself or others, at least taking her to the hospital removes that possibility. If she can talk it through at all IMO it's worth asking what she wants (especially if she's been there before) even if you don't feel like she should make the ultimate decision. FWIW when this happened for me he agreed to go and agreed that it was the right call.

MH

@smallesttiger it's a really hard call to make and it's extremely rough that there's not a better solution but for me & terry it was the right thing. If you wanna talk anything through or just need to vent you can definitely hit me up. Good luck.

MH

@smallesttiger if you're really worried about self harm, the hospital is the place to go. It's a last resort and it sucks a ton but if this is someone who needs to be on the fast track to placement w/ a therapist / psychiatrist, that will get them there. Something I didn't know was that the minimum time you can stay in the hospital (in NY maybe?) for ideation is 72 hours, so be prepared for a longer stay for your family member.

I got Dead Cells and I'm pretty bad at it, haha. Terry is amazing but damn is it hard.

At a recently renovated McDonald's where I ordered and paid w/o speaking to anyone; weird as hell. It's so quiet all you can hear is the too-sped-up remix of Lorde's 'Magnets' that ruins the song.

@tfproxy @Antifreeze yoga certainly won't cure a bunch of stuff but what it is good for is developing core strength. If your core is good, there's way better support for your back. The kinds of exercises physical therapists prescribe for folks w/ back pain are essentially yoga.

@tfproxy @Antifreeze honestly, chiro is largely bullshit and a bad chiropractor can actually hurt you. Yoga will help your back. I totally feel your pain with regards to the stuff (sitting at work all day is real bad for your back) but try running a few sun salutes and see if that helps before you try chiro. There's lots of pretty decent free videos online with the whole sun salute routine.

Cautionary fiction

How has one of those pieces of media that talks about how technology is bad while totally missing the point not seized on the fact that everyone I know at an office job wears headphones all the time

(for my part it's because I work in a noisy open office that's anathema to getting shit done and I'm also super lonely for interaction not about people's babies)

Twitter

Deleted Tweetbot off of my phone, which was probably the only way I was gonna stop checking twitter. Their policy on bigotry being protected speech was honestly the last straw.

Pol (good)

Just read a profile on Christine Hallquist, who is a trans woman running for the governor of Vermont (the dem primary is august 14th). She seems pretty center-left (she's my parents' age) but it's really cool that at the local level she doesn't seem to be getting a lot of grief. It's great to see lots more marginalized folks get into running for office!
