we will never fix this aspect of git and it sucks because it’s “good enough” for enough people that we’ll probably take a good while to replace it and the tool that does replace it will probably make similar mistakes but be better in some other academic way
git is a nightmarish blob of identity tightly coupled to activity and I really wish it weren’t irreversibly stuck this way
