Because it’s currently using a fullwidth space designed for Japanese text, and because the spacing between letters is slightly wider than it was in English, text formatted for the PS1 version doesn’t currently fit perfectly. I’ll be fixing that.
There *might* be a halfwidth space control character; I’ll be researching that. But I will definitely be modifying the spacing between characters, so if need be I’ll adjust the space size too.
Here’s a comparison between the PS1 version (left) and my current progress (right). My goal is to have them look identical, except that my translation will have a higher-quality font. https://awoo.space/media/SJLF8KFTANCThPm2wsY https://awoo.space/media/rCCFWsiut8VZqHiqa_Y
Dug into the control codes a little more - it turns out the second byte of the space control code, `F90A`, controls the space size. Halving `0A` to `05` produces something (right) that seems to line up with the English version (left). https://awoo.space/media/RvdVQCixoqQSJCcEF6k https://awoo.space/media/EcnJxehiLZ0tRjeHdj8
@dog I am very curious what this is! I don't recognise the game.
@Felthry It's Lunar: Silver Star Story! It was originally a Saturn game; the later PS1 port was released in English. I'm porting the English localization from that version back into the original Saturn version.
@dog oh! I've wanted to play Lunar for a while
@Felthry They're good games! Definitely worth playing. And when I'm done my project, the third one will finally be available in English too. :D
Also, the punctuation is currently displaying wrong because my new font is currently missing reshaded punctuation. There are no periods, and I substituted a full-height exclamation point designed for single-case (e.g., Japanese) text.
