@bug This makes sense to me and I have similar things, if not the same ones (In my case, not music, but some specific ritual and noise (a crackling candle) _to focus on_ (rather than to mask other noise, which is what I think NT folks usually use that sort of sound for)).
I'm in favor of a broad definition of 'meditation' that is basically... the best I can put it is maybe something like "oblique methods that help guide thought processes"

@green I think there's a lot of flailing around the general concept of meditation in the first place! Folks use that word to mean so many different things that I was a bit concerned about using it here at all. ;) I never had luck with 'empty your mind' but I find a lot of use in 'let your mind focus inward rather than obsessing over every little exocosm thing'
