@kara@occult.camp @zebratron2084 yes! the pointless, nonstop violent "gags," especially with Tom & Jerry, were at best tedious and at worst very off-putting to me. same with Road Runner, mostly. Bugs was more of an ambiguous trickster archetype, so it wasn't like he was always the "good guy"--sometimes he got dunked too, though rarely.
@zebratron2084 I also disliked that female characters were rarely present, and when they were they were almost always "THE Girl," complete with being pink and wearing a bow because OTHERWISE HOW WILL WE KNOW IT'S A GIRL.
I *also* disliked (heh) how little thought was usually put into the background. like, in their *entire world*, only *one guy* in the *entire species* of lion-guys was named "Lion-O"? and only one panther-guy was "Panthera?" COME ON.
@zebratron2084 one thing that is particular to me is that dragons were always presented either as evil or goofy or both.
I mostly hated the "episodic" nature of the shows--how no matter what happened in any episode, everything would get completely reset to "normal" (usually with a little "laughing-with-the-Scrappy" moment in the last 20 seconds, Ho! Ho! Ho!) by the end of the episode. even then I understood why, but I still hated it.
minor Solo spoilers, stuff I adored
@Leucrotta it was, I always enjoy seeing the "everyday" view from the Empire side, of the people who are being stormtroopers because they either were like Han--wanted out of a desperate situation, like people who join the US military now--or genuinely believe that they are the Good Guys, bringing Peace and Order to the Galaxy if they have to choke the living shit out of it one planet at a time. XD
Masto culture (-)
@Elizafox that's how tribal culture works--once you've established the in-group signals, it's time to get to work making sure there's an out-group to fight against, otherwise the in-group starts looking at slight signalling flaws as out-group signifiers... leaning left doesn't mean we magically scoop out or monkey hindbrains, after all. :/
@Leucrotta omgggggggg the dromaeosaurs
💞 someday I need to commission you for my tattoo design of a feathered dinosaur with a crest saying "Life Finds A Way"...
minor Solo spoilers, stuff I adored
@Leucrotta YES THAT WAS EXCELLENT. it makes *total sense* for that to be the "official music of the Imperial Regime." XD
more Solo blather, not especially spoilery
@Leucrotta it's not that he's *dumb*, he's just obviously deeply inexperienced, and you can already see how his cockiness is going to get in the way of *learning* stuff, so he ends up being really good at some things and *spectacularly* not very good at others...
"Everything's fine here, we're all fine... how are you??"
more Solo blather, not especially spoilery
@Leucrotta yes! his defining attribute trait is "cocky," not "smooth" or even "particularly capable," and though he's apparently gifted at flying, that doesn't help with EVERYTHING ELSE, where he just kinda flails along and survives more by luck than wits or skill. XD
all caps, my favorite part of the song
@Leucrotta omg I love that song. and yes that is my favorite bit too. XD
two Hollywood phonies tried to give me their autographs
GROOUUUUUND
@Azure we're on the third floor and our cats are indoors-only, so I have to keep the window closed most of the time or Nar will probably (given the interest he's shown in it so far) have an Unscheduled Adventure. we could likely get the screen fixed, but I think I'm going to give the maintenance people some more time to settle down first... given their current track record I don't trust them not to install it upside-down or something. :|
@Elizafox um... yes? dealer's choice! :D pretty much anything, really, although a trans butterfly would probably look amazing. :D
@Elizafox daredaredaredarepicspls!!! <333
@mawr oh awesome I am very much looking forward to pictures!! :D
