dental adventure (extremely mild)
my dental adventure this morning was, as the CW says, extremely mild. the dentist remembered me, even though my last visit was 8 years ago--by the way, if you're in the North Seattle area, I unhesitatingly recommend Dr. Johnny S. Lee on Aurora Ave., he's FANTASTIC--and he took care of me in less than half an hour. I've got a new temporary crown, and an appointment in 2 weeks to get a permanent one.
I am SO PROUD of their generation. they've *finally* developed music that is completely incomprehensible to me! <333 kids these days and their darned weird music!!
I went to a different pet store than my usual place this afternoon for cat treats. the person behind the counter looked to me like they were barely out of high school, and were playing what I can only assume is "music" consisting of what sounded to me like a series of nonsequential electronic test beeps. at first I thought something was malfunctioning, until it briefly played a melody--then went back to random beeping.
dancing with Raziel while singing along to NIN "The Hand That Feeds" and then Razi bites me. he's getting into the spirit of the song! XD #kittenthings
(boosts ok) instance info request, disability
are there instances that specifically, in their rules, name "ableism" as a thing they disallow? disabled voices being involved in moderation are also a bonus.
to be clear, we do NOT mean any instance that uses a catch-all and includes ableism in that catch-all. forex "we don't allow racism, transphobia, etc" is not helpful in this request.
a moth got in this morning as Spouse was leaving for work, and (with a bit of assistance) Raziel took great enjoyment from hunting and eating it. such a mighty hunter. #kittenthings
wildlife rehab report compiled and posted to DreamWidth! https://elynne.dreamwidth.org/2299052.html
wildlife rehab: baby birb feeding edition
one of the interns wanted help moving several seagulls from a smallish enclosure to a larger one, and asked me if I would help catch and transport, and I said "sure!" and that's how I got bit by a seagull. XD I still have the scrapes on my hand, too. unlike ducks, seagulls can do some damage to tender human flesh!
in other not-really-news, WRENS ARE ADORABLE. and I think that concludes this edition of wildlife rehab news! (5/5)
wildlife rehab: baby birb feeding edition
on the other hand, in the enclosure with the towhee who didn't want to be fed was a junco who did VERY MUCH WANT FOOD, to the extent of perching on my shoulder, screaming, and fluttering madly. however anything I put in its mouth it immediately spit out. BUT IT REALLY WANTED ME TO DO THAT SOME MORE. I don't know, birds are weird sometimes. XD
so I got all my chores done, and *four* of the end-of-season cleaning chores. and then! (4/?)
wildlife rehab: baby birb feeding edition
and a crow who had no interest in gaping for food, so it's getting tube-feedings, but even it was moved out by the end of the day, leaving me with just six birds. there were a few others outside the nursery proper--a wren and towhee that are still enthusiastic about being hand-fed, and a robin and older towhee who have entered the "HUMANS ARE EVIL" phase, which is *good* and also meant I didn't have to actually feed them. XD (3/?)
wildlife rehab: baby birb feeding edition
today there was a house finch who's getting special treatment for an earlier episode of crop stasis, which it seems to have cleared up just fine; four wrens and a swallow, all jumbled in together, who were all EXTREMELY ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT FOOD OMFG; a floppy-headed robin (don't ask unless you want potentially squicky info), who didn't want to eat but did want to bite me, and I was able to shove food in there between bites; (2/?)
wildlife rehab: baby birb feeding edition
birb breeding season is slowing down, the baby birb nursery is emptying out and the checklist has gone up for end-of-season preparation deep cleaning stuff. I'm usually one of three people there--two volunteers and one intern--but today there was Just Me! so it's a good thing there were a handful of birds that needed care, and none of them was particularly onerous, *and* all the cleaning was done for me before I arrived, woo! (1/?)
Loulu mewed for me to come over and rub his tummy, and after a while he pulled my hand up, hugged it, and fell asleep. So obviously this is my new life until he wakes up.🖤🖤🖤 #cats https://octodon.social/media/g4cuoCz86RPfoHZMn24 https://octodon.social/media/nYGpCwiNYcaHj_vnG0g
Anyone suffering from wildfire smoke this week: You can make a really cheap air purifier by taping a HEPA filter (from the furnace section of a hardware store) to a box fan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH5APw_SLUU
I made one last summer, and it really helps. And it's cheap enough that you can make several if you need to clean the air in a larger space.
You might want to tape the filter to the back of the fan (instead of the front, as in the video), so it stays better.
@Leucrotta ... I feel like they have, but... it's not like I've *looked*. XD
