* fanfic--saying "X canon media character and OC" lets the reader know that it's not all canon media characters, so they know what to expect going in
* art--when soliciting customs some artist specify "OCs only," which means for whatever reason (ethical, legal, artistic) they don't want to be doing pictures of existing canon media characters

I am only mollified from the fact that the last remaining trickles of water from our taps has completely tapered out by the fact that I can *still* hear the crew working on the pipe down the hill. and see their lights, though it was much more impressive when they were cutting a pipe or something and there was a massive flare of sparks--*that* was cool-looking. fingers crossed for working water Real Soon! :|

til that the words tissue, technology, text and dachshund all derive from the same proto-indo-european root, *tetḱ- ("to weave, braid, add, establish, construct"), which came to mean "weave" in Romance languages and ancient Greek but "badger" in Germanic languages ("dachsund apparently literally means "badger dog"?)

@shoofle @benhamill@witches.town and yet, we did it constantly, without noticing, pretty much frictionlessly, on LiveJournal, just by choosing a drop-down menu (after setting up groups). you could even choose to only "follow" certain groups, and filter your own perceptive experience as selectively as you wanted.

@guerrillarain@witches.town I do! I love it, but I know I'm not using it to its fullest extent--I'd say I'm using, like, 40% of its abilities, because I'm a dork who skips tutorials and reference materials. XD but even so, for that 40% it is *fantastic*. just the split screen alone is amazingly helpful.

and, that was pretty much it. we have several owls, mostly barred but one great horned; an assortment of smaller birds, mostly flickers, pigeons, gulls, and crows; and we just got in a bald eagle that has a broken clavicle (I think?), whose prognosis is very iffy because of the injury. basically they can't do much for it; either it'll heal right, or it won't, all the vets can do is wait and see. :/
