Christianity, the insipidity of Jesus
@kara_dreamer@witches.town hmm. well, I can't tell if it'll bug you in that way, because I don't know what your threshold is and I haven't seen it since it first came out (lol), but I remember it as being pretty bible-accurate, up until the bit on the cross--and that stuff is all kept in the theme and setting of the time, so I didn't find it jarring, just interesting.
@drwho have you tried mint oil/spray? nontoxic and works wonderfully in my experience. good luck!

I was wondering why I didn't remember NFL players standing for the United States anthem when I was a kid. Turns out, they didn't start doing that until after 2009 - and their league was being paid for it by the DOD.

So, y'know. Fuck everything I guess.
@zebratron2084 shit, I'd be happy if I could get the Id/Ego/Superego voices in my own head to identify themselves properly. >___< I've at least gotten to the point where I can *usually* identify "oh that's depression, I don't have to listen to that"...
brain; argh; recovery; goodwill
@zebratron2084 it's a process... three steps forward, two steps back, but always going forward one way or another. :]

anti-self vent
@zebratron2084 aaaah, yes. I have had days like that too. much empathy. :/
anti-self vent
@zebratron2084 oh hon. *gentle hugpets offered* it's okay. *nosebump*
"I don't believe technology can solve social problems"
yeah, see, okay
look
honestly I don't think "social problems" can be solved, per the There's Always Assholes theorem
BUT
you know how if your faucet breaks there's water spewing everywhere
standing in the middle of a social media disaster and going "tech can't solve this" is like standing in that person's kitchen and going "plumbing can't solve this"
it is not as helpful as finding the shutoff valve
or building a BETTER FAUCET
How I sorta learned not to click through CW's when I won't like what's inside and have nothing good to say
1) Learn to recognise the things you know you won't like
2) Looking carefully at the CW and think about if this is something I won't like
3) Be mindful, think very carefully, remind yourself, "is it really worth seeing what's inside vs how grossed out/angry/sad/upset/blah I'm gonna feel after it?"
4) Remember if you don't like it but they do, you probably don't have anything to add
religionstuff
@kara_dreamer@witches.town *nodnod* that's the experience I've had with pretty much every organized religion I've looked into. Judaism has some lovely connections between spirituality & scholastic study, & the cosmology is fascinating; but it also has centuries of intersocial baggage that I'm not entirely comfortable with. Kuan Yin is fantastic; Buddhism has a basic tenet against homosexuality. Orthodox Kemetic is appealing for obvious reasons, but they refuse to believe trans folks exist. >_<
@kara_dreamer@witches.town people who can be described as true believer Christians usually say they feel they have a close, personal relationship with either Jesus or Jhvh, and those relationships are often based on emotional elements that aren't present in the given text of the Bible or whatever; it's based on being able to personify Deity into the role of "friend/confidant/protector" on a personal level.
gods come from our imagination. belief comes from our hearts. we get to make it up as we go. :)
