@Leucrotta @kara@occult.camp @kel@witches.town yeah--it's incredibly tone-deaf to play up "white male GAMER" as a heroic archetype given what's been happening the last couple of years, and everybody who's aware of this movie *knows* about that, regardless of their opinions on the subject. one side's going to take it as a vindication, the other as Yet Another Fucking Iteration Of That Same Goddamn Bullshit.
@InspectorCaracal@tootplanet.space @cute_weeds BDSM Thanksgiving! (Do Not Know If Want)
Oh, it's #GoodFriday!
You know how I suggested putting together some kind of self care plan for Thanksgiving if you knew you were going to be dealing with difficult family/folks?
Do it again.
If you know you're going to be hip deep in barely tolerable folks through these next few weeks, plan ahead. Did your T-day plan work? Great! Did it not? Great, a chance to fine tune!
Hold yourself gently this #GoodFriday.
@kara@occult.camp @Irick @kel@witches.town heh, it's okay--JP had... specific context for me, even when it first came out, that hit me *hard*--in some ways that have nothing to do with the movie itself, if that makes sense. :]
I read the short story that the movie "Arrival" was based on (it was REALLY REALLY GOOD and I still need to get that book back to the Station, arrgh), but I never saw the movie, and this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z18LY6NME1s is making me want to see it VERY VERY MUCH.
@Irick @kara@occult.camp @kel@witches.town and back to the original point (heh), there was also a trailer for Alita, and I *barely* remember reading the comic decades ago but still recognized about 60% of the scenes in the trailer, and I'm deeply unsure how I feel about it. :\
@Irick @kara@occult.camp @kel@witches.town lol I was had just written something similar in defense of Jurassic Park and hadn't posted it yet. XD
@kara@occult.camp @Irick @kel@witches.town I will fight you for Jurassic Park. (you can have the sequels though, they're mostly garbage)
I will forgive today's pun lunch because it is #starwars themed.
They have Boba Fettuccine Alfredo, Queen Broccoli Almondala, Jar Jar Links (vegan sausage), and the ever popular Wookiee Cookiees.
@frameacloud and to feel guilty about when you can't muster up the energy to make it happen, yeah.
@kara@occult.camp @kel@witches.town the trailer was like "The Last Starfighter" + "Hunger Games" + whatever that horrible thing was with Adam Sandler and Pac-Man a few years ago + all the other "teenager saves dystopian world via super game-playing powers" because this is now a fucking GENRE. *bleargh*
@Irick @kel@witches.town ..... fffff okay that explains a *lot* about my reactions to "SW: The Last Jedi," thank you! wow. okay. o____o
@Irick @kel@witches.town nope! I will check that out, thank you! :D
@mawr I confidently predict that there will be *lots* of people making them. I want to try making one and *I do not own a sewing machine*. but yes, the foxes are much better than the flying fur potatoes, bleh. the porgs are ok, they aren't as bad as JarJar (there are things spawned from landfills that aren't as bad as JarJar), and they're handled fairly well in the movie, but they definitely are Not All That.
@kel@witches.town I feel like I want the Mastodon crash course in why RPO is supposed to be so awful so I can be armed with that going in, but the preview was really very enh, like it did a fantastic job of hyping exactly the wrong perspective on the story to make it look like Every Other "Kid Saves Earth Via Video Games" Movie Evar.
there was also a preview for the next Jurassic Park movie which YES. I WILL SEE THAT. YES. all past sins can be forgiven if they do it right, and the preview was pretty fuckin fantastic (DESPITE THE CONTINUING LACK OF FEATHERS WTF THOSE POOR NAKED DINOS), so my hope is raised once again to stagger onward...
I am absolutely the target audience for pretty much anything with dinosaurs. ;______;
@shel Disney is gearing up to literally own our entire culture. 8:D learn to like wearing mouse ears!
Art historians were delighted with the sapience project. So many questions of object provenance and authenticity were cleared up as soon as one could ask a painting or a sculpture or a song where it had been and how it had moved and which parts of it were made by the master artist and which by the student or the assistant.
The delight faded as they learned objects were as prone to forgetfulness and confabulation and just plain creating fictions as anyone else.
