puppies for adoption at Seattle PAWS now!

I got to see one that was being shown around (the cats and dogs are housed in a separate-but-nearby building complex from the wild animals), it was... I'd guess threeeeee months old? didn't want to open its eyes, was a dark grey with almost black points, a little jowly, with floppy ears and a longish tail. short fur, very soft. A++ would pet again ;)

puppies for adoption at Seattle PAWS now!

it's unusual for puppies to come in during the winter--spring and summer are more likely, for them and kittens--so the litter of (if I overheard correctly) six or seven labrador-maybe-mutts are getting a *lot* of attention from the staff right now. if you're in the market for a puppy, PAWS is an excellent source for adoptions, and puppies usually get adopted out *fast*--consider this your early alert!

volunteering, dull

also, we had a score or two of unsold Xmas trees donated, which are *awesome* for animal enrichment. the bobkittens have already mauled the crap out of one tree, and others are being appreciated by assorted pigeons, owls, and flickers.

the ward cabinets were torn out and rebuilt, and today I got to clarify some of the shelf labeling and get an extra peg installed to hang the mini dust pan and broom from. contributions to the long-term running of the facility! heh.

volunteering, dull

the bear cubs woke up briefly and made some unhappy gronking noises before settling back into hibernation; I didn't know, but evidently that's very common during hibernation, brief waking periods and "OMG SO HUNGRY" complaints before they pass out again. XD the bobkittens are doing fine, raccoons are doing fine--oh, we have one new raccoon, an adult with a broken toe; he's doing fine, but being a feisty pain in the ass, exactly as he should be. XD

volunteering, mice as prey animals, otherwise dull

I got to clean the feeder mice tanks today. mice are cute, but very smelly. since the mouse tanks are in the nursery (nothing else is in there now), I also took my usual nursery/ward cleaning shift. only four enclosures needed cleaning in the ward--seriously, winter is *slow*. then cleaned a flight pen outside for a couple of recovering seagulls. most of what we have are pigeons and seagulls.

ok I need to go, it'd be great if things could settle down in my abdomen, thx

They’ve found another mature American chestnut tree that appears to be resistant to the chestnut blight!

This is extremely good news. Until the chestnut blight, chestnut trees were the predominant tree in eastern North America. They hope to breed this one with others.

up early getting ready to go back to volunteering-work, eating a banana and drinking chai 'cause I'm not going to stop at Safeway to get chai on the way 'cause I'm getting a Lyft 'cause it's icy out there and I would prefer to avoid a quarter-mile walk along an icy unlit road with no sidewalk and plenty of traffic 'cause I would like to *reduce* my chances of dying this morning

neeeed to stop listening to music on YouTube and feed the cats and go the hell to sleep augh

(queues up Skrillex's "Reptile" next)

(might be having a relaxing dragony evening heh)

watched the second Doctor Who/Dalek "movie" (with Peter Cushing, and it was SO WEIRD seeing him NOT blowing up Alderann [sorry, spoilers]) RiffTrax with Spouse, and it was pretty horrible but funny with the commentary. now waiting for 8 pm to roll around so I can feed the cats and head to bed. tomorrow morning, I'll be heading back to volunteering! and we'll see if there's anything there to work on, heh.

Remember kids: irony is something that occurs, not something you do.

I found this Sabertooth Squirrel print in Portland. I had to have it. It might be the start of a squirrel collection. #weirdart
