whether or not you can straight to a specialist (like, anyone who isn't a regular doctor/general practitioner) without a referral depends on your state laws on open access. easiest way to find out is to call a physical therapy place and ask if they can treat you without a referral.

there are sometimes places that do sliding scale fee to help out uninsured!
