@envgen it is always weird to think about this and how different each life was.

crossposting this from twitter.

fediverse, I'm looking to enlist a UI designer for some (paid!) audio software design work. the ideal person for this role:

1) is a UI designer
2) knows their way around music software
3) can write GLSL shaders or has an interest in learning
4) is taking contract work

if this is you, or you know somebody who fits this description, please get in touch :D

@gamehawk back when I was a farmer we had a subscription service where people got stuff each week depending on what we had.

Sometimes it was great and they got a wonderful variety of interesting things, other times they all got 15lbs of tomatoes.
But that was less 'restaurants aren't buying' and more 'what are we going to do with 500lbs of tomatoes???'
It was an odd year.

There are always more details to work out when trying to implement something that actually respects privacy.

If you try and use that as an excuse to not try and make your application respect privacy, fuck you.

re: family ?, ukpol adj

@envgen that's rough. I hope it is just a phase.

@fribbledom I didn't particularly like keybase to start with, or think it was a very good idea, but this makes it a truly terrible one.

The ancient Greeks posed the question; if you start with familiar mythological figures such as Theseus and Asterion, start with something simple like making them smooch, then lead into things like AUs and fan insert characters, can you still refer to it as the original myth?

They named this philosophical problem "The ship of Theseus."

@ekaitz_zarraga you can be a serious engineer and still not understand any of the weird magic that is EM interference.

I don't understand it, but I am not sure I am a serious engineer.

@aeonofdiscord I need to do that more, Felicity is taking some online computer science courses and I keep catching myself saying things that someone experienced would understand from context but she doesn't have the experience yet so talking about a python server running on her server just confuses her.

Words are hard

The word 'server' is used for too many things in computers.

Because there is a server where my server is running my server.

@jk you people and your GMT. You're living in the past man.

the number of big projects that still rely on python 2.7 is a bit disturbing.

And once again, a feature request for one of the basic features that have been available since before the first release.

complaining, as usual

The person who keeps saying that localStorage is equivalent to saving things on the local file system just got really excited to find out that browser add-ons may let you store persistent data in a browser that may not get cleared without warning the way localStorage can.

But we have browser plugins to just save the stuff to the local file system, if you are installing something anyway saving it in the browser is a step backwards in terms of functionality.

This dude wouldn't bug me so much if he wasn't so fucking loudly telling everyone about how all the saving problems are solved by just using progressive web apps because localStorage.

I must not forget about list comprehensions when coding in python
