Google also pulling the same stalkery bullshit as Facebook, it turns out. t.co/QaqKNQC1TH

*intense, rhythmic screaming akin to that in Black Box's Ride On Time*

@KristianCollie@snouts.online Well ain’t that a goofy doofer.

I think it's really sad how we domesticated the trains and just inbred them until they were so reliant on us they never leave their tracks and can no longer hunt for their own fuel. I wish there were still naturally occurring wild trains, I bet they were just awe inspiring to behold.

For some reason I’m imagining people on Star Trek using the ship’s computer like it’s an Amazon Echo.

“You have three minutes, Commander, not a second more.”
“Computer, set a timer for three minutes.”
“Three minutes. Starting now.”

My political toots that got crossposted over to birdsite has seemingly sparked some wild debate between people I don't know whatsoever and I'm perfectly happy to just stay on Mastodon and not get involved whatsoever. 🙃️

I wish Siri Shortcuts supported making specific Bluetooth actions other than just turning it on and off. I mean, connecting to my earphones takes 3 taps, but I do it so much that reducing that to 1 or 0 would still be worth it.

And now we've managed to reproduce it on someone else's computer; so this is definitely not some glitch with me, this is actually something Google is doing.

Here's a video of me changing the value of a cookie in Chrome's Incognito Mode, causing the site to redact search results.

And reproduced in Firefox too. (Note: This didn't originally happen in Chrome or Firefox, I've instead found what information Google is reading to send back redacted results.)

Show thread

More screenshots showing this not happening to non-European news sources, and how it still occurs in the old non-JS Google results layout.

Show thread

But yeah... anyone else got or heard about Google actively redacting links to news sources from results (even though the legislation that would require it isn't in force AFAIK)?

Show thread

The same result occurs if disabling JavaScript, which falls back to a much older version of the results page, indicating this is a change on Google's server side and not an issue loading things.

Looking at the code, the tiles at the top of the page have no text and are loading a blank 1×1 pixel image.

Results further down the page have the same amount of empty whitespace for all of the titles.

Notes:
* This only happens to results from news websites.
* Specifically news websites inside of Europe. (Al Jazeera, India Today, US sites, etc. all show up).
* This happens even if the search term is not news related.

I thought Google's 'empty search result' graphics about the possible EU copyright directive were mockups but apparently not (at least for me)???

Steven Universe spoilers

This one segment was so fucking beautifully drawn and animated oh my goodness <3
