@Gale Oh hey Cabot
Decided to arrange a welcome for Tumblr refugees, so Toot! is 50% off on the App Store today! Grab it now if you haven't - this is literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, as any future sale will not be the same sale as this one, which is the Tumblr refugee sale.
Go go go! https://itunes.apple.com/app/toot/id1229021451?ls=1&mt=8
It's a good client. It's the best client. Well, it is at least the client with the most secret easter egg games.
@tootapp Siri Shortcut support for us monstrous nerds out there would be cool to have at some point!
@may *padlocks it on* >:c
@may YOU TOOK IT OFF???
People asking for a federated version of tumblr? technically it's existed for quite some time now https://github.com/Plume-org/Plume
@MezzoM5@mastodon.social I can see why some people would consider it bad based on the assumption that Tumblr won't do it properly. I don't consider the policy inherently bad, though.
And as someone who has been involved in running user-content driven services before, this move makes sense to me from an organisational perspective.
@MezzoM5@mastodon.social They’re legally liable for pornographic content in virtually every country in the world. They need to spend time and money building features to support having it at all. They were recently penalised for failing to moderate it well.
By comparison neo-Nazi stuff only has legal implications for them in like, two countries? It doesn’t need specific work and they haven’t been penalised for it.
That’s why their focus is where it is.
The new rules specifically ban real life depictions of sexual organs in a sexual context, and any graphic depiction of a sex act.
Other NSFW stuff is still allowed. Fetishes are still allowed. Erotica is still allowed. Nude fanart of the Onceler is still allowed.
Tumblr also in September introduced new rules that made expressing anti-LGBTQ+ sentiments on the site a bannable offense. I doubt their intentions are malicious here.
Friendly neighbourhood robotic bat. Also web developer. Hugs/smooches @may.
