on birbsite, an RTd post won’t show up on your timeline again from other RTs until quite a while later (at least a day, or feels like).
Does mastodon do that sort of collapsing? if it does, it seems like the period is extremely short.

I’m Zenith, a leafy seadragon. I finally dove into the furry scene this year after a decade of hanging out next to it. It’s fun being a noodle!

Regarding that last boost, local custom is to CW things like politics, violence, stressful current events, etc. so that people can choose to engage with this content if they want to and avoid it if they want or need that space.
You do you, but remember that many folks are doing their best to curate a safer space for themselves (me included!) and we do not need the pressure of other social media sites to Always Be Visibly Enraged.

The rose engine, a specific subset of the family of ornamental lathes, is essentially a spirograph for metal. Here, a machinist carves a repeating offset pattern into a brass slug the size of a dime.
The superset of full ornamental lathes are essentially /three-dimensional/ spirographs. Here's an artisan using one as part of making an egg full of eyes (footnote 1).

Some folks on birdsite are tagging our project account in tweets like "hey jack twitter should copy this thing mastodon does". The idea that this is merely about features is short-sighted. Twitter will never, ever, ever be your friend. They are the shareholders' friend, not yours. No feature will let you see what their engineers are working on, what's under the hood. No feature will fix their headquarters in the US following and enforcing US laws and customs worldwide.

Seahorses and sea dragons are related and are both kinds of fish; they're slow-moving but not sessile, and camouflage themselves among the kelp in which their food source - plankton and small crustaceans - lives. Both species are evolved from the pipefishes, which also live among the seaweed.
In seahorses, sea dragons, and pipefish, the male carries the young; seahorses and -dragons have no scales, and instead have skin stretched over scaly rings radiating from bony skeletons.
