@IrisKalmia I honestly hate guns. If I could snap my fingers and make them all disappear, I'd do it without a second thought.

The only reason guns are championed as personal defense weapons so much in the US is because the US has been in a cold war with itself since its founding. The mentality that "the only way to defend yourself and others from a shooter is by shooting them first" runs deep in our culture.

"We have to have guns because /they/ have guns, y'see."

Story idea: A pilot and their crew realize that the extraction methods used to pull fuel directly from stars is killing several life-sustaining stars, having already shaved billions of years from their lifespans.

They turn against one such plant in a valiant yet unsuccessful attempt to halt it, but are ultimately successful posthumously as their story and discoveries rapidly spread via social & media networks until the overwhelming pressure results in legislating the industry out of existence.
