@vahnj 😟
@kel@witches.town @Efi Hi there! *soft hugs readily on offer!* ^^
@vahnj Grownups are people who chose to stop learning from life and decided that entitled them to be In Charge.
Grownups are gatekeeping assholes for whom no amount of maturity or responsibility warrants an invitation if you think differently than they do in nearly any way.
Grownups are fascists and every single one of them can h*ck right off.
@indi Yay for industry aware devs!
@Mycroft Oooh! Interesting! You learn something new every day I suppose :3
@vahnj Aww. That's ok.
@vahnj I like dasharez0ne's catch-phrase for status updates: tired but strong
@Jacel ..............I don't know how I never knew those books existed. Wow. o.=.o;
My memories of the first three are so fond that I might not read those two, given that review. >..>
Network Nostalgia. ♥️
@Mycroft I don't think there were any FCC regulations that prevented 56k from running at 56k-- it was all over regular voice phone lines, so the quality of your connection was usually dependent on how old and well insulated the phone lines to your house were.
We'd just had ours replaced after a storm around the time I upgraded, so I had a super crisp and clear connection, enabling the highest speeds. I frequently managed sustained 6.5Kps downloads! :D
@starkatt It takes a lot less effort than it might seem. ^^
@Jacel ...there was a 4 and 5 to the HGTTG?! o.=.o
@green I do tooo.
I don't like to voice this opinion 'cause I have a few friends that keep them, but I'm against outdoor cats in general. An invasive predatory species that kills for fun is not something we should be willfully inflicting on our local wildlife.
@green The common reason I see for people to want Coyotes gone from populated areas is that they like to nibble on cats. My thoughts on this:
Coyotes > Cats.
Also, they were there first, damnit. :3
@xurnami gila monster!! :D
10/10!
@baa I was reading about someone who put a timer on their internet access for a few months. When the timer ran out, they would shut off their wireless router and find other things to do... and it changed their life dramatically for the better.
It's not something I have the privilege to do myself, but it made me think a lot about how dramatically things have changed in the last 15 years.
@KawaSeadrake That series of beeps and chirps was a song sung in harmony between two distinct entities, each syncing with and curious of the abilities of the other.
I just figured out how to sing the starting few notes of the harmony- translated to English as a "yes" response to the primary inquiry of "are you a modem?" ♥️
Network Nostalgia. ♥️
I miss the ritual of connecting to the internet back in the days of dialup. Today we're just always online which is neat, but not as special, y'know?
I was just remembering the late dialup days of crossing your fingers and hoping you'll get a good connection, the full 56k v.92 handshake that gave you the best upload speeds for playing games online.
I used to be able to sing the handshake for 9600 baud well enough to fool modems into attempting a connection.
@vahnj yes yes good
@Jacel That's okay, it's not for everyone. The books are and were quirky, and the first was definitely better than the following two.
I just thoroughly enjoyed the world as presented, and the style of humor in writing. :3
Dragony plush thing! Friendly, non-binary, anarcho-syndicalist, ace.
