Did Breath of the Wild feel like a really bad case of hostile design to anybody else or did it just feel like that for me

@noiob weapon durability and how the game expected me to know what to do without actually giving me any good instructions. It felt like it was trying to force me to do what it wanted without telling me what it wanted

@InTheLandOfTheRisingSun I mean, the main quest is almost waypoints on a map and signs/NPCs in between. it just kinda wants you to find your own path (but the roads that are already there usually help). What you do outside of the main quest is pretty much whatever you want, the main quest just gives you tools and teaches you things to help you with whatever you actually want to do

@InTheLandOfTheRisingSun idk, the most fun I had with the game was just charging headfirst into uncharted territory and seeing what it had in store for me. Sometimes I'd get my ass kicked, sometimes I barely made it and discovered some cool new stuff

@noiob I like exploring cool shit in videogames, I don't like having absolutely no idea what's happening or what I'm supposed to be doing

@InTheLandOfTheRisingSun but like, you can do whatever you want? and the main quest is tracked in the quest log, like, after the Plateau the game tells you "go this way to Kakariko" and the map is carefully designed to lead you there if you follow the road, and even if you don't

@noiob I was able to get to kakariko. I didn't feel like I got much direction after that. (i don't remmeber too well, I played the game a few months ago)

@InTheLandOfTheRisingSun it's been a while for me, but I'm pretty sure the old Sheikah lady sends you to the Hateno ancient tech lab

@InTheLandOfTheRisingSun the game gets gradually less handhold-y after that, but it still tells you where the next divine beast is, and the map will kind of have an obvious path, though you're free to make your own

@InTheLandOfTheRisingSun and even if you go in the opposite way you'll have a harder time but you can find towers and shrines and sidequests that help you get stronger and learn about how the world and its systems work… I really liked that. It felt much more like a works for me to explore than say, Skyrim
