@socks most types of thing have a generic driver in addition to specific drivers, so i'm guessing something along those lines. like you can use any old usb keyboard with generic usb HID drivers, but if you have a fancy keyboard that supports n-key rollover and macros and stuff you need manufacturer-specific drivers to use those features

@noiob @socks that's... a hack i had never considered before
though that still limits you to 12-key rollover, not n-key. not that that should really matter in any practical case
