The fediverse is a public commons and it is immoral to take from it without consideration of your effects on the sustainability of the network. The use of network salience for political ends should be considered with high degrees of suspicion. The justification of "I must protect my users above all else." is fundamentally a xenophobic argument. The impact on all users must be considered. When those with power have other options we must evaluate their choices in that context.
A reminder that if you're designing computer security systems in 2017, the following threat profiles are actually all the same threat actor:
* 4chan
* neo-Nazis
* Twitter trolls
* radical theocrats
* the Russian Mob
* the Russian President
* the Florida casino mafia
* the New York real estate mafia
* armed conspiracy theorists
* some Silicon Valley billionaire CEOs and venture capitalists
* The Senate, Congress and President of the United States
Not even joking. This is where we are.

I hadn't realized how much I'd gotten used to the idea of being harassed on the web because 'hands off' policies from inaccessible site admins were so common.
Being here on masto really made me think about how much the web-based cruelty I had come to think of as """"""normal""""" was in fact unnecessary.
Culture matters, in a visceral way.
hello mastodon let's see if you're already being able to mobalize ppl
By activists it's the main argument why use #facebook and #twitter
How about you?
- the 20 most important character masks of global capitalism will meet in the city
- the 20 strongest national economies will push forward the harnessing of the world for the global capitalist use
- G20 is a assembly of bourgeois governments, torture states and warring military blocks reinforcing global exploitation
Global Politics
I picked up something involving the death of a US traveler who went to NK. I'm willing to guess that it could be the flashpoint of war, and as a result, the reaction could endanger thousands, if not millions and even billions of lives.
An unwise decision made by one person could easily esclate to war, and I do fear tht might happen. So, keep an eye out for any warnings.
