I'm so glad Mastodon doesn't show likes... this was always so heart wrenching. I was guilty of it myself, but this place doesn't seem to call for it. It's got a much better vibe.

@ZiaMacPine yeah, I get your reasoning, like we've talked about it in the past. :) But to some folks it really hits different.

@saintajax33 with some distance I suspect some of it is that I dont consider social media sites with any permanence. They exist for a while then are gone. So I dont understand the emotional investment or why I should consider others feelings when I make a limiting choice on a platform.

@saintajax33 I understand not bullying people, not being mean to people, and not antagonizing but the choice of saying "I dont want to interact with you here for my own arbitrary reasons" causing dissoance confuses me because shouldnt people have the right to make personal choices of how they associate with folks

@ZiaMacPine maybe it's a generational thing? To me, growing up, the block button meant "I wish for you to rot in hell". If I just wanted to not see anyone anymore, I'd just mute them. They'd never know, and I would never have to hear from them again.

@saintajax33 or its a symptom of there being far fewer social sites and that they have lasted longer then in years past. Muting always feels like more effort and consideration then I want to waste on people.

@saintajax33 Oh yeah, this shit used to drive me around the bend.
Not that Mastodon doesn't have its own issues, such as waking up to find everyone's blocked your instance because someone on it was a nitwit, but at least it's not this.
re: birdsite, feels comic
@SkunkyLass I've thankfully not run into that yet, but I've been setting up accounts other places just in case. After the snouts.online stuff years ago, I want to be prepared.

@saintajax33 I will never understand this I suppose.
