people are dismissively joking that Mastodon is some ultra-complex shit, as if dot-replies or a lot of other old twitter UX were in any way obvious.
@starkatt might I ask what a dot-reply is? I'm just kind of curious.

@Felthry So it used to be, if a tweet started with a username it would only be visible to that user and people who follow both of you. If you wanted to reply AND show your reply to all your followers, the common practice was to sneak a . in front of the username.

@starkatt My only issue is how difficult it is to reach to friends across instances :(
