(this thread brought to you by: I bought Shadow of Mordor for like five bucks but that game is frustrating and it turns out eviscerating orcs makes me feel kinda gross right now)
@starkatt none of them are... particularly gay? but just looking through my recommendations on steam, The Beginner's Guide, Papo & Yo, and Dear Esther are all under $10 right now and have great stories, and Kentucky Route Zero is just over $10
@starkatt
Have you done dear esther? It's light on the gameplay, but I think it's a really poignant piece around struggling with identity and agency.
@starkatt
Me too :D
Okay... That Dragon, Cancer then?
The Beginner's Guide?
Uh... pretty much anything https://www.youtube.com/user/Campster/videos has reviewed? XD
Gosh y'all have a lot of really good suggestions and I've already played most of them. Will definitely have to check out some of the others <3
@starkatt oxenfree? I haven't played it yet but it matches your criteria and people say super good stuff about it.
Kentucky Route Zero is awesome and they donated to TransRelief too!!!
@Irick I love that game :)
@starkatt ummm Gone Home...

@Fuego Already played it. Maybe it should have gone on the list. Thanks!
@cigazze Good suggestion! I've already played it :)
Put another way:
If the last three games that I found had a lasting impact were We Know The Devil, Undertale, and Night in the Woods, what should I play next?
@tcql@octodon.social hey @acetone_kitten check this out

"This form of Apocalypse myth will appeal to people with Right-wing values: they present a rough world where only people with Right-wing values are able to survive. [...] Zombie apocalypse stories are a refinement of this genre [...]
"Why does it matter that a genre has such a clean mapping to an ideology? The stories we tell and consume have a feedback loop with our expectations."
