Spent the first half of today being productive and the second half being sad and dissociating and reading fanfic, so... shrug?

how can ghost be malevolent if they all go "awooooo"?

behhh now I need to call back but my mood is crashing for no clear reason.

Argh, job ad says "call this number and we'll email you an application"
Called, don't have an application yet.

Even w/ phonetic alphabet, communicating exact text over phones is terrible.

The canonical short-form reason I broke up with my first boyfriend is that he wasn't postmodern enough.

Half the people I tell that to are like "????" and the other half a like "yeah that makes sense."

Hey folks!

What are books/movies/tv/etc that you absolutely love, but for some reason cannot recommend to anyone?

Hey, if you feel like you have thoughts for an essay or story or something but worry you don't actually have the energy/focus/etc to write it right away, try to at least get an outline down so you can come back to it later :)

I write extremely haltingly, so this has been a useful thing for myself.

Oh my gosh new Craft Sequence book drops in a week.

Do I want a second cup of tea?

Downside: risk of overcaffination

upside: teaaaa

whyyy do I have the phrase "yiff is theft" bouncing around in my head.

Okay y'all, if I immensely appreciated Debt: the First 5000 Years, what other pieces of modern anarchist lit should I look into?

Or: I'm already more or less on-board with the basic principles of anarchism and I'm really hungry for serious in-depth analysis applying anarchist principles to complex social structures.

Of particular value would be anything on alternatives to police/prisons, or discussion of anarchist approaches to structuring of large groups.

(also I need to ever practice writing fiction so I could do it my own damn self)

Writing prompt, because I really want to see this story: What if technological meddling in our emotional and thought processes allowed us to become more empathetic and emotionally communicative and fostered more meaningful relationships between people?

Me: Okay, so the play we're going to this evening looks like it might be yet another "psychiatric medicine turns people into robots" story, but I'm optimistic about it being more interesting than that.

Play: "Psych medicine turns people into robots!!"

Me: deep sighing

Also, is weather being predicted by neural networks yet, or are we still mostly using physical models?

Show thread

IDK, it probably just feels weird to me because I'm a determinist.

Show thread

Just me, or is assigning predictive probabilities to one-time events kind of philosophically dubious?

e.g. I'm not sure "There's a 35% chance of rain on tuesday" actually has meaning. "35% of simulations have rain on tuesday" makes a lot more sense to me.
