Pokemon gen with the best music?

i decided to actually do advent of code this year, which is a fantastic sign

it means i actually feel like casually writing code again

@nihilazo oh heck, i totally forgot the mcelroy thing was today!

personal

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz it would be wonderful if my social life wasn't so thoroughly connected to the ebb and flow of my mind

but hey! maybe that just means i need to hang out more so that i don't feel like i'm out of place around as many people--because that feeling takes mental energy that i just sometimes don't have

personal

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz yeaaaaaah. i kinda do this in bursts

it's like a cycle of
1) "i should get out there more" *does so*
2) "oh no, this is probably annoying" *retracts into obscurity*

it's honestly a miracle that anyone gets closer to me at all =w=

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz oof yeah

this is partly why i basically take a millennium to reply with anything longer than a sentence--and i even meticulously reread those!

video of a game with trauma and oppressive topics, but also it's pokemon

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz i haven't!

i mostly just heard mcelroys reference it a lot, but never really gave it much thought besides as "a thing i missed when it was made"

maybe i'll check it out~

video of a game with trauma and oppressive topics, but also it's pokemon

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz yeah, that game is wild

i don't wanna spoil anything more, but it really does things. and actually, it hits me in ways literally nothing else has

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz oh! have you ever considered pokemon mystery dungeon: gates to infinity?

have a clip that's admittedly slightly spoily, but also gives a pretty good idea about the theme: youtube.com/watch?v=hwM8mKxC5n (timestamp in the url is important btw)

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz yeaaaah, they're big ol annoying blobs now, so copying only grabs the first frame and getting the url fills your copy buffer with base64

handy

i've been making a habit of using duckduckgo's image search so that my muscle memory stops betraying me when i wanna send something

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz hee, don't worry~

i just giggled when i recognized the topics on the tl--and i was happy i could read your takes on them ^^

If leftist spaces can't get past the habit of conflating actions with behavior then I don't know how we'll ever succeed. If we can't understand that bad people can do good things and vice versa then we're unbelievably lost.

explainy

@Felthry @monorail one common reason is because nginx can run as root so your actual server that might have holes in it doesn't need to

root is the highest permission level on linux, and you typically need to use them to have a server that listens on ports browsers actually try to connect to

basically, nginx is heavily battle tested, so there's a smaller chance that someone can exploit it and gain root privileges than whatever random and less-tested thing you put behind it

possibly inflammatory for masto pol

@haskal these kinds of people always made me uncomfortable

the main reason i'm leftist to begin with is because of empathy, and i've always had significantly reformist and forgiving views when it comes to ignorance if it isn't intentional

privilege is invisible to those who have it, and i feel like someone ignoring that because they were lucky enough to be on a path to be educated without the intervention of others is reminiscent of the "i've got mine" crew

Idk who needs to hear this today but your existence is not harmful
