re: splatoon 2

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz oh yeah! that's not bad for an early attempt at all! much less in X!

i guess that means you have some really good game sense to back up trying new things on the fly!

re: splatoon 2

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz nice!

(also oh wow, a goo tuber in X?? the learning curve for those things is obscene)

@ticky yeah, i think they went a little far with the minimalistic interface this time

@ticky in this mode, you're safe from the perils of the internet

me: *playing a game*
literally anyone: hi
me: *plays extremely badly*

re: splatoon 2

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz ahh!

i used it a couple times in salmon run, and always seemed to underestimate its range--also, being able to hold the trigger was nice

then again, it also seemed like it did a dubious amount of damage

in thoery, it seems like the polar opposite of the luna--but the people i saw using it had similar strategies to me, so i was curious if there was some other similarity i was missing

(plus, i remember you tried the kensa luna a while back)

@ticky oh! are you going to evolve it into pokemon_name_0426?

re: splatoon 2

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz i've seen it a lot, but i've never actually used the clash blaster

how does it compare to the luna? (viability wise, i mean)

very dark, sorry

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz we really gotta find a way to get you into some better circumstances :T

maybe that way you won't need to worry as much about mental debts, because those are Very Bad

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz (oof, i just realized you probably weren't talking about finances)

being damaged is tricky, but it doesn't mean your mind is worth any less

so still try to be careful..!

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz it's true, though so does helping a little in a way that doesn't carry such dubious potential for you

it can be a stopgap until you're in a better position

it doesn't need to be a zero sum game, you know

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz i think you can! and if your interest is in tech, i can even help you do that! (seriously, hmu on discord sometime!)

also, the prescriptive of the helped is actually the part i'm concerned about

my view is that i would prefer more people get helped instead of expending yourself on only one and getting trapped with a problem that prevents you from doing the help you want to do

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz (i hope that kinda makes sense, at least..!)

also i guess we should have probably CWd this chain, oops

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz because that's the problem

if you overextend yourself now, and it damages you--you stop being *able* to help others

the world needs more people like you, *not less*

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz meanwhile, i think you shouldn't do that, because permanently losing your mental health is far too high a price when convincing someone else who it wouldn't damage is an option

if you are presented with a situation like that, please don't overextend yourself

it's nice to be dead-set on helping someone, but if you find an alternative, you can help many more people instead of dooming yourself with just the one!

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz yeah, that was a mess over there--we really do like to follow our neighbours to the south a troubling amount

it especially doesn't help that most people i talk to are so apathetic about the wellbeing of others--but also so against any form of confrontation, meaning that reacting to hate conjures more angst than the original hate

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz yeah :(

my ideal situation is the largest amount of happiness distributed amongst everyone

i just think that overextension at a large scale would kill a lot more people than it would ultimately save

i think that we should help others how we can, but if you put yourself in a worse situation to do it, you lower your potential to help in the future

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz (for example, if we somehow managed to get that Ontario trial of UBI off the ground, the future would look a lot brighter i think)
