out of curiosity, what are y'all's favorite D-pads from any controller or handheld console? (and why?)

@typhlosion GBA, original model. Real solid feel to the diagonals.

@typhlosion I adore the crisp, clicky D-pad on XBone controllers... but they don't last long under the assault of my thumbs, and I've had two give out within the last year. *sigh*

The SNES had a nice, comfy D-pad, though. Big, rounded enough to not chew up the thumb.

@typhlosion Hard to say, but the GBA SP has a pretty good one, and the New 3DS has about the same sort but better. I like the low travel of it, it just feels right for a handheld console to have low-travel buttons... It works well combined with the low profile, too. I like the PSvita's dpad pretty well, but it is a little bit strange combining low travel with high profile

@typhlosion ooh sega genesis/master driver for sure

to me it felt really light and easy to roll, but not so flimsy that you'd accidentally slip out of a diagonal or something

@typhlosion oh definitely the genesis/mega drive. it's designed to make diagonal inputs easy but still feels stable enough that you dont end up doing them accidentally

@typhlosion The New 3DS (the original 3DS D-pad had a good feel too, but it was painted with this coating that peeled with not even too much wear) and Wii U Gamepad D-pads are pretty good; they feel pretty refined after so much iteration. The GBA SP D-pads were pretty slick too.

I haven't tried the D-pad on the Switch Pro controller yet, but it looks like it's at least as good as the Wii U one.
