@typhlosion so there's a sort of 'fundamental' kind of topological object called a pair of pants
@typhlosion and evidently any two-dimensional topological manifold can be cut apart into a collection of pairs of pants
@typhlosion this is called the pants decomposition of the manifold
@typhlosion the pair of pants itself is a sphere with three distinct points removed from it
