poem
we talk of nature as such a spectacle
of green leaves and amber grain
and joy and poetic melancholy
but the wild world does not perform for us
it's dead branches twisting and reaching
over bare mulch and brown grass,
a weed through the cracks defiant
and a wrap of sticky silken longing
where something fanged waits to lash out
just played through the demo for EMUUROM and it has absolutely charmed me

it's one of those 2D exploration platformers, like you have to win the game or lizard or vvvvvv, but instead of dying a lot you get to scan creatures with your scanning gun
halo lore spoilers maybe??
@starseeker i knew it had to do with the forerunners somehow
Now I'm imagining an actual tabletop game like a cross between "Papers Please" and "Keep Talking And No One Explodes" where a group of bureaucrats has to process a set of documents according to an extremely convoluted rulebook—documents have to be printed. signed, stamped, initialed, redacted, revised, clipped, stapled, etc. differently based on arbitrary criteria like the day of the week, the number of pages, whether it's portrait or landscape, etc.
If you can't get all the documents correct before time runs out, your government commits an atrocity 😖
@kat cause they don't want to fuck the punctuation, presumably

was going over meiosis w/ a student & they confessed they had trouble paying attention in biology in part because the subject didn't interest them
& like, I get that, they've been going over stuff like "cell membranes are made of a phospholipid bilayer" for months now, it's not stuff that's interesting unless you were already curious about cells
(and if you were interested, it's not in enough detail)
so I asked: when a tree grows, where does all that mass come from?
and, they didn't know (actually they weren't solid on what "mass" was, precisely, which: fair.)
which isn't unreasonable, they haven't covered photosynthesis or cell metabolism in class yet
idk I'm wondering a lot about how and why we teach science
@Doephin it was relevant in ice age, there were cards and abilities that relied on having snow lands and snow mana. these days it's mostly just a flex
