@Felthry yea the Paris s3 might not be too good but it means image uploads don't take ages
@Felthry yeah that's my point! Uploads are fast bc they live closer to the awoo server. It's reads that suck but the client is the one who downloads them not the awoo server
@vahnj oh, okay. I don't think I really understand but okay
@Felthry ok so we store images in S3 which is also where people view it currently
When you upload an image you upload to awoo when then uploads to s3 because The awoo server does not want to share keys to write or delete data but also this takes processing power to do so the longer it has to deal with uploading the slower awoo in general will go
However when you read, it tells the client to download the image rather than serve the image itself
@vahnj I see! and s3 is some kind of server in Paris?
@Felthry amazon s3 is a file hosting service you can use to share files publicly too
It's basically a web-ready cloud hard drive
@Felthry we want to make sure the site is responsive even if images load slow so it's better for data to be in Paris since that's where the awoo server is if that makes sense
@vahnj Yeah I suppose that makes sense! Are you French? Or was the Paris one just the cheapest to rent server time on?
@Felthry nah Paris and Amsterdam are scaleways two choices iirc and awoo was already set up for paris in its first server incarnation
@vahnj Only European servers? That's odd. And wait is scaleways a brand of amazon or am I just confused I don't know all this tech stuff I just do hardware
@vahnj sorry, there's really no need for me to know this stuff so I'm just wasting your time
@Felthry yeah but you wanting to know is enough! I don't mind explaining stuff at all
@Felthry scaleway is a hosting service that is European, they are not affiliated with Amazon. I think they run their own datacenters
@vahnj Never had a problem with uploads, just downloads.
