@asonix@asonix.dog @rey Have you checked your logs? It feels like it's possible there's an error happening that you might need to dig up, because it's strange if your memory footprint stays that low and it's barfing on db reads

Also consider upping your timeouts!

discourse follow-up

Hello! I want to let you all know I wrote a thread yesterday about navigating our situation with some usable tools to try to navigate this.

Maybe we're too far gone for this to be useful, but if this helps anybody navigate what's happening, that's a win for me.

awoo.space/@vahnj/2069298

@asonix@asonix.dog @rey fuckin christ mate

that might be why, even awoo needs restarts sometimes with 4gb swap

what problems happen when you start needing to restart?

@asonix@asonix.dog @rey this part looks ok- you're the only one using your instance so it should be fine

how much memory/swap space do you have? that's the 2nd part i've had to futz with to not have to restart all the time

Hey admins!

Here's some very straightforward instructions if you're not intimately familiar with git (pff, like anyone is):

1. go to the base directory of your project
2. run "git fetch"
3. run "git cherry-pick b9d241c6f554570e0677d9354b27dad21322e341"

Then, the next time you update, make sure you run "git pull --rebase v1.#.#" so your git history doesn't get ruined compared to the official branch

Hey admins!

There's a major issue in stock 1.6 that requires that you make some changes to ActivityPub, as suspended users' messages are not being properly rejected. This includes domain blocks.

To fix it, run git cherry-pick against this commit and restart:

github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/

@rey @asonix@asonix.dog there's some funkiness with how parallelization is set up under the hood that you have to poke at to get it to be stable

@asonix@asonix.dog @rey you're using systemd to manage your services right? can i take a look at the execution parameters for that

@bea @corzntin@anticapitalist.party o nice i'll start linking it

@corzntin@anticapitalist.party 1.6 has some bugs in it that needs fixin', hmu when you're gonna do it cuz there's a major one that's pretty easy to fix

Love y'all. I am sorry you are all hurting. We can work our way through this, I know we can.

Meta-discourse, #socialharm

But we're all prone to error. The more we open ourselves to each other, the more chances we have to harm each other.

It's important to acknowledge this, it's important to recognize where the wrong is, to acknowledge the harm done, and to work to make up for it, even if there is wrong on both sides.

Own up to yourself, and work together. This has been such a great community before now- I know we can do better than tonight.

Meta-discourse, #socialharm

If these are things you can't sit down and do, the harm will simply perpetuate, as we're seeing tonight.

Are you hurting too much to seek reparation for harm? Take a break. You can mute the folks who have harmed you. You are allowed to take breaks from people. You are allowed to give yourself space. Do this!
