tempted to start spelling place names in israel so they'll sound like americans trying to speak hebrew for the first time

Telluveev, Butt Yum, Re-shone and Who-lawn are mostly pro subway, but Hair-say-Leeah, ca-Far Subba, and *especially* raw-Nawnaw are more hostile towards the project

it's so weird to me that some people still need to be convinced that [insert any one of my opinions here]

things i managed to do today rather easily: going on a 25 km (16? mi) bike ride, then sitting for 2.5 hours straight in front of the computer to add a billion corrections to openstreetmap following that bike ride

things i didn't manage to do: eat, buy groceries

old-new special interest unlocked: bike transportation in the Goosh Done ("tel aviv metropolitan area") suburbs

gonna vote for the emotional labor party

@meena i remember being in norway and eating something that, i think, claimed to have been "flatbrød"?

@meena hebrew has לחם /ˈleχem/ which meant bread as far back as the written record goes, but then there's also מצה /maˈt͡sa/ specifically for the traditional passover flatbread thing (aka matzo)

i wouldn't use either of these words for, like, norwegian flatbread or whatever, though. instead i'd use the english loanword קרקר /ˈkʀekeʀ/ 'cracker' for anything in that general vague category of non-religion-related thin flat crispy breadlike food

ASL: "can't"
Israeli: "mistake"

Israeli: "which one of those?"
ASL: "are they the same?"

note: yes/no questions and wh questions have two distinct facial expressions/"tones of voice" (and it's the same two in both Israeli and ASL, as far as i can tell) but i can personally say from experience, that when i accidentally use the wrong one, i'm still mostly understood

also in the post where @else he/himmed their car; i, for some inexplicable reason, immediately thought "oh ok so now i should refer to him as אוטו (/oto/ 'car' or 'auto-') because it's in the grammatical masculine instead of מכונית (/mexonit/ 'car', literally 'machine' + '-ette') which is in the grammatical feminine" DESPITE there being literally NO context in my life in which i would be using gosh dang HEBREW to communicate about him!

for the rest of my life, some part of my brain is going to be exclusively dedicated to the assignment of and compliance with (grammatical?) genders of not only every person but also every inanimate object

growing up with a language with grammatical gender is so fucked up sometimes; like for my previous post i almost typed in "prime ministress" because i'm used to thinking about politics in israeli/hebrew terms
