Daoist Farmer Parable

It's this one, ya lovable goobers. <3

star-hawk.livejournal.com/4113

(At least, this is the best rendition I could find on currently available energy levels. The last paragraph, about consoling the *other* parents, is highly emotionally problematic for me and does not appear in any version I've liked, nor any I've seen before.)

Back home from con. It was great. Stories later. Disappearing until after the election, though I might drop in to check on troop morale and such. Good luck, and for the love of god, whatever happens, don't forget the Taoist Farmer Parable. <3

re: uspol; schadenfreude (+)

They're desperate. You can tell they're desperate when they quote people whose actual research, in its full context, doesn't support them in the least. They're hoping nobody will notice, and in the case of Trump supporters, they're absolutely right. But I see what they're doing. *They* don't think the facts support a GOP win, either. They just know they can't afford to admit it.

uspol; schadenfreude (+)

Haha, I just caught the Political Insider, one of the pro-Trump sites I hateread, blatantly snowjobbing its readers. They were crowing about how *one* poll shows the general election margin is something tiny like three percent... when they just got done the other day lecturing readers about how nothing matters but *individual* races... which are still going great for us, per Nate Silver's models. But their source for the OTHER assertion in their article? Nate Silver. :D

@Leucrotta May your ship with eight sails
And with fifty cannons
Fire upon the town.

Also... you know you've had a hell of a weekend when your entire Headfriend Council restructures itself during the course of a single shower. Details of the Goddamn Furriness later, maybe.

That was bloody fascinating. Had lunch with a couple of Peg's friends from the animation industry. They were both Spumco veterans and had some... fascinating stories. Super-nice folks, and it was gloriously weird listening to them talking about taking meetings with $INCREDIBLY_PROMINENT_HOLLYWOOD_PERSON. Neat cap to the weekend, kinda reminded me of the dragoness's powers, and... yeah. We're both pretty exhausted and pretty excited right now. At Burbank Airport, about to head home.

So after that quote about grief from Nick Cave, BoingBoing listed a bunch of other related articles, presumably based on the first articles "death" tag: a website for finding out who's died in your house, a recipe for sugar-skull pastries, cremain-scattering at Disney parks...

...and then "master Python with this complete training package!" I presume this is because (a) pythons eat people or (b) learning to code is like letting a little bit of your soul die. O:)

re: quote of the day; cw: loss/grief

(of course, the above quote doesn't really offer much guidance in the event that the people you're grieving for are still, in some form or another, quite alive... but luckily i've always been good at improvisation 😔 )

@Phorm Phorm, sweetie, that's the closest thing to a practical sociopolitical solution I've seen on Masto OR the daily Terran news in a long time. We need more people think outside the box and inside the bottle. <3

It's 2018. Reality has gone Full Philip K Dick. The answer to any question of "Is X Valid?" "Is it OK if I just go ahead and believe Y?" or "Does A count as B?" is YES. The people in charge of any kind of social or political consensus about anything have completely lost their fucking minds, and we can't even guarantee Consensus Reality will allow basic daily survival anymore.

If. It. Harms. No. One. Do. And. Think. What. Ever. The. Fuck. You. Want. (And fast!)

@Phorm Listen, dear, I mean... I just read an article the other day trying to argue that a burrito is a sandwich. Anything counts as everything now. Push the boundaries. :D <3

@mmsword @anthracite We passed on Eggslut, for the aforementioned reason that (ahems at Anthy and braces for the inevitably response) I FUCKING HATE EGGS. ;)

quote of the day; cw: loss/grief

"It seems to me, that if we love, we grieve. That’s the deal. That’s the pact. Grief and love are forever intertwined. Grief is the terrible reminder of the depths of our love and, like love, grief is non-negotiable." -- Nick Cave

(source: boingboing.net/2018/11/05/if-w )

(For those of you keeping score at home, while Peg was having the above sandwich, I had a vegan tofu scramble. I'm not vegan, it was just the only non-eggy thing on the damn menu. It was still kind of amazing. It was the Blu Jam in downtown LA.)

@anthracite

re: uspol; racism; history

@troubleMoney I can only hope the US can be even a tenth as gracious someday about losing its empire. :D

re: uspol; racism; history

@troubleMoney The British are the most wonderful and skillful masters of benign assholery on this planet and sometimes I love them so dearly when they're not like, conquering India and shit. ^_____^

@kaputotter S'funny, we were talking about that earlier today. We went to an otherwise really awesome brunch cafe in downtown LA and Peg was amused to get the first chai latte she's had in years that DIDN'T have the classic Seattle leaf art on it. I guess she and I have kinda gotten spoiled up there!
