@Verdigris (However, I do have some fortunately mild bipolar tendencies and have had a couple of bipolar friends say I should get myself checked out, so it's good to know people have my brain's back here. <3 )

explaining the joke :) re: day job, waaaaaaaugh, health, mh (+++++++++++++++++), fatigue, possible severe 🐯malfunction (±)

“As far back as Yossarian could recall, he explained to Clevinger with a patient smile, somebody was always hatching a plot to kill him. There were people who cared for him and people who didn't, and those who hated him were out to get him. They hated him because he was Assyrian. But they couldn't touch him, he told Clevinger, because he had a sound mind in a pure body and was as strong as an ox. They couldn't touch him because he was Tarzan, Mandrake, Flash Gordon. He was Bill Shakespeare. He was Cain, Ulysses, the Flying Dutchman; he was Lot in Sodom, Deirdre of the Sorrows, Sweeney in the nightingales among trees. He was miracle ingredient Z-247. He was—"

"—Crazy!" Clevinger interrupted, shrieking. "That's what you are! Crazy!"

"—immense. I'm a real slam-bang, honest-to-goodness, three-fisted humdinger. I'm a bona fide Supraman."

"Superman?" Clevinger cried. "Superman?"

"Supraman," Yossarian corrected.

day job, waaaaaaaugh, health, mh (+++++++++++++++++), fatigue, possible severe 🐯malfunction (±)

I just did a 9.5 hour shift with a chest cold. But I'm fine. I'm great. I'm amazing. I feel perfectly sane and none the worse for wear. I have a sound mind in a pure body and I'm strong as an ox. They can't touch me, because I'm Garnet, Villanelle, Catra. I'm Saint Hobbes and Suzie Derkins rolled into one. I'm Barbara Gordon, Mary Celeste, Pirate Jenny; I'm Deborah in the Book of Judges, Deirdre of the Sorrows, eating the nightingales among trees. I'm miracle ingredient Z-247. I'm immense. I'm a real slam-bang, honest-to-goodness, three-fisted humdinger. I'm a bona fide Supracat.

*laughs for 37 straight seconds, fails to apologize to Joseph Heller for ripping off Yossarian, clearly enunciates the word "vibescu," then topples over face-first into the bowl of hummus she was struggling to remember how to eat: it goes in the lowermost face hole, that is how you know it is working* 🙀

@Leucrotta Now I'm curious if you ever ran into Shadowfist/Feng Shui and what you thought of it...

@Leucrotta Dammit, I could murder some ddukbokki right about now. Not too much good Asian in NOLA, sadly...

@Leucrotta (NTM, lots of interior art whose "Japanese" consisted of "random chicken scratches arranged vaguely in the shape of That Furrin' Nonsense Thems Jap People Raihts." A vision of Japan that was 50% Shinto monk, 50% ant-like sarariman, and 50% ninjamurai. Tom Clancy would've been proud. *sigh* )

@Leucrotta Oh, man, that was a bit of a shock to my system because I LOVED L5R when it was just a card game, and the ornate changing world was a bit part of that. But in retrospect, yeah, SUPER problematic Western "oriental adventures" cultural tourism, a real shallow go at being anything remotely resembling Japanese. Reminds me a lot of some of the EXECRABLE worldbooks that were published for the Torg RPG. (The Japanese on the cover of the Nippon Tech splatbook was REVERSED ffs... *sigh* )

@Leucrotta I could see a decent world with a decent place for cars, but... yeah, it's kinda the same way I could see a healthy planet with a healthy place for humans. There'd have to be about 80-90% LESS of them. >_<

re: Blogging, mental health (-), askin' for thoughts

@hummingrain Thoughts, what the hell are those? Follow your bliss, hun. That's been one of the longest lessons it's taking me to learn: your friends like you even when you're NOT actively entertaining us.

worldpol, history, civilization

"The game of civilization has nothing to do with the players, and everything to do with the map." -- CGP Grey, on why Europe had such an easy time with animal domestication ( youtube.com/watch?v=JEYh5WACqE )

I'm definitely busting out that quote next time I run into a Eurocentrist types. It won't do anything, but it'll be fun to watch them spin themselves out dodging the issue.

@Leucrotta

1) Darkest comedy you've ever liked?
2) Absolute bottom of the barrel least favorite RPG ever?
3) Favorite sauce?
4) Least favorite man-made object that's supposed to be a convenience but isn't?
5) Favorite non-battle historical incident pre-1900?

parallax, writing, media

Heh. The first chapter of my YA space opera owed most of its mood to Fargo and Godzilla by way of a Culture novel. The second one's shaping to taste a little bit like The Thing, Upstream Color, Better Call Saul, and Goodfellas. This is gonna be a weird, weird ride, kids...

re: shameless sentimentality

@001zlnv I'd link, but FA remains dead, dead, and dead...

re: shameless sentimentality

@001zlnv I'm still holding out hope we end up like Kinkyrainbowdash@FA's inflatable-bondage-themed "dystopian" Vault. :D

shameless sentimentality

maybe it's a symptom of the cold coming on, but i have the warm fuzzies about you lot something fierce this morning <3

thanks for being here and being weird and being beautiful in a sometimes very ugly (and sometimes not) world

if this is the End-Times Bunker, it's actually pretty nice digs honestly, and maybe we'll be the Vault that makes it

@001zlnv @anthracite I'm about at the point of doing a Sit On Anthy's Head Strike until such point as she STOPS GHOSTING THE PEOPLE WHO ALREADY GRACIOUSLY OFFERED TO DO MOST OF THE REPRINTING FOR HER. I thought dragons LIKED hoards. *smirk*

@anthracite

New Orleans is resolutely normal today, including the vast amount of work I have to do, the "feels like 90°" weather, and the air being so thick with tree spooge my throat hurts.

You know, given the alternate timelines I've glimpsed in the last week... I'll take it and I'll love it. But I'll still reduce my lifespan by a couple weeks with a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit.
